Nervous to start cerazette

user1359 · 12/05/2018 19:13

It's my only option more or less but I'm sooo put off by the likely incessant bleeding. I keep putting it off for one reason or another - to avoid a wedding, a holiday etc. Is it ok??

Didn't make me bleed. In fact it stopped my periods for several years

LutherRalph1 · 12/05/2018 19:17

Same as demented

NeverHadANickname · 12/05/2018 19:18

I didn't bleed at all on it.

user1359 · 12/05/2018 19:21

But did you all not have a "bedding in" stage of bleeding before it stopped?

OP posts:
Hoddykins · 12/05/2018 19:21

No bleeding from the day I started taking it

dementedpixie · 12/05/2018 19:23

I had one normal length period and then they stopped

NeverHadANickname · 12/05/2018 19:27

No didn't have anything like that. Started taking it and then didn't bleed again until I stopped taking it a couple of months ago.

agentdaisy · 12/05/2018 19:35

It can take up to 6 months to settle. Some people have no periods from starting while some have bleeding for weeks, others keep their normal cycle length and bleeding. You'll only know once you start taking it.

I didn't get on with it at all and had constant bleeding for months. I switched to Noriday, which is the same type of hormone but different strength, and I've been fine although I still have period type bleeding.

My cycle when not on the pill is 4-6 weeks long with 7-10 days bleeding, first 4-5 days really heavy. On Noriday its still 4-6 weeks but bleeding only lasts 3-4 days with the first 2 days being heavy.

dementedpixie · 12/05/2018 19:40

Noriday has a different hormone to cerazette but is still a mini pill. There are a couple that are different to cerazette but they have a 3 hour window to take them whereas the desogestrel pills have a 12 hour window

I have very low level bleeding continuously - I'm actually taking Cerelle (generic Cerezette); when I took Cerezette, I didn't bleed at all - it was ace! Even this low level bleeding (I use 2 panty liners a day) is much much better than periods were - no PMS, no pain.

Iamnotacerealkiller · 12/05/2018 19:42

I didn't have a period for 10 years on this. My sister uses cerazette when she needs to skip z period for a sports event. My cousin however bled for weeks before giving it up. It really depends on your personal chemistry. By the sounds of it if you start taking it and have anything other then a normal period then you might be one of the unlucky ones and can just give it up.

Not a reason to be scared though. All ladies needs to find the right solution for them.

Nevth · 12/05/2018 19:45

Cerazette has changed my life. No bleeding at all in the last five years. And I used to really suffer during my periods! Of course it's individual, but I do think you tend to get the negative stories online (as people with positive experiences - including myself - tend not to post as thinga are going well). May be wrong about that though!

intheairthatnightfernando · 12/05/2018 20:33

I have found it great. Minimal bleeding. Easy to manage.

user1359 · 13/05/2018 06:38

I really hope it works for me. I can't take combined (although it works really blooming well for me period wise) as I get shocking headaches/migraines from it.

I've made an appointment with a nurse to ask for cerazette. First available appt is a month away Hmm

I used to have periods which required extra super tampons. In the first 6 months of Cerazette I had some bleeds, not big ones, more like heavy spotting, but they were annoying as they were unexpected. Since six months plus I occasionally get a very light period. I have been on it for about two years this time. Has been great for me (incidentally I tried the implant for 9 months before begging them to take it out - bloating, low energy, depression). Why do you think it will make you bleed much? Just do it.

allthatmalarkey · 18/05/2018 09:04

I should add - I usually only get a light period because I forgot to take one, so if you can build it into your routine so that if you forget you've got a couple of hours to remember, that really helps. Anything over about 4 hours and I'll get a bleed.

PavlovaPrincess · 18/05/2018 09:06

I didn't bleed at all with cerazette. But I found it a horrible experience. I put on weight and I became a devil woman. I stopped enjoying sex and felt emotionally numb while at the same time I snapped and snarled at everyone around me.

Coming off it was the best thing I've ever done (but that is just my own personal experience and won't be the same for everyone).

girlinleeds · 18/05/2018 09:12

Haven't had a period in the 9 years I've been on cerazette, I suffered very badly with endometriosis prior to having daughter and had very heavy painful periods so for me it's been a life changer

SpaSushi · 18/05/2018 09:20

The branded cerazette stops my periods entirely. The only time ive had breakthrough bleeding was when i restarted taking it after babies.

However, whenever they give me the generic version i do get terrible breakthrough bleeding. Same active ingredient but different other ingredients. So i get specific prescription for cerazette now

user1359 · 18/05/2018 09:29

That's interesting. Presumably it's a cost saver for them to offer the generic one? I'll try and put my foot down for cerazette.

Lots of positive comments here, but Cerazette made me so sore down there that I couldn’t have sex ... just wanted to flag that up in case it happens to you, as it took doctors ages to believe me that was the cause of the issue!

Wellthisunexpected · 18/05/2018 09:39

Most wonderful pill I've ever taken. No bleeding at all, untilI stopped, got pregnant immediately from stopping taking it. It cleared my skin up, helped my mood and my IBS went away.

Was actually sad to stop taking it when TTC!

SpaSushi · 18/05/2018 10:31

Yes, generic brands are cheaper ( pharmacist told me ); luckily id previously mentioned to nurse and gp the issues, so when pharmacist gave me generic 6 month supply (because they "weren't allowed to give cerazette unless specifically prescribed now", i went to gp and he did just that.

But you wont know if this is case for you or not without trying

user1359 · 18/05/2018 12:33

Ok I'll make sure the green slip specifically says cerazette 💪🏻
