POSITIVE cerazette stories

There's only negative stuff on here but cerazette is my last option so I'm desperate to hear good things before I try it.

Anyone??

dementedpixie · 19/03/2018 17:21

It was fine for me and stopped my periods for years

afromom · 19/03/2018 17:39

It's been good for me now that it's settled down. I had bleeding for the first month, but nothing since. I'm 6 months in now.
No mood swings etc. I was very dubious to change from cilest, which I had been on for years, as like you is read all the negative reviews of cerazette. But it's been fine and I'm loving no periods!

PossibiliTea · 19/03/2018 17:44

I was on it a few years ago and I didn’t have any problems that I noticed

SuburbanRhonda · 19/03/2018 17:50

Had no periods for 12 years but my libido was shot and hasn’t really recovered.

pineappleplant · 19/03/2018 17:51

I've been on it for a few years now, no periods, no complaints!!

TheGrumpySquirrel · 19/03/2018 18:00

On it for ten years no periods no issues. Libido did go up when I came off it but isn't that the case for most hormonal contraceptives?

redavocado · 19/03/2018 18:19

I loved it! I was on it for years and it was the only pill I found that let me get a handle on my endometriosis without terrible side effects. Those started when I was swapped on to Cerelle, which is supposedly the same thing. Are you sure that's not the one you've heard negative things about?

awkwardsitch · 19/03/2018 18:30

I tried it last year for a month and had a weird first period so stopped which in hindsight wasn't long enough.

How can I get my gp to give cerazette though? He'll defo try and fob me of with cerelle

OP posts:
Rufffles · 19/03/2018 18:34

I was on Cerazette for years with no issues (and no periods - woohoo!)

After a few years I was switched onto Cerelle by my GP (but not because of any problems). I was told it was pretty much the same drug in different packaging - and I was equally fine on that.

KochabRising · 19/03/2018 18:35

I can’t take the combined pill.
Did have a Mirena (is that an option for you at all?) which had fewer side effects but didn’t use one between ds1 birth and ds2 conception - I used cerazette.

It suited me just fine. You do need to take it in quite a narrow window daily but I found it actually seemed to reduce period heaviness and menstrual linked symptoms by a load

When it comes to hormonal contraceptives it really is very individual- with any method you’ll get women singing it’s praises and ones who found it horrific. It genuinely is what works for YOU.

Ask for it, if they offer cerelle refuse and ask again. Polite, firm, request what you need.

I was on it for three years, no periods during that time and no problems. I came off it to conceive my daughter and that happened in the first month. Went back on it shortly after birth... Again, no problems.
Went to het a prescription Summer 17 and they gave me Cerelle. I started to get breakthrough bleeding. It was also around the time I stopped breastfeeding so Dr said could be that. I requested cerazette and surprise surprise breakthrough bleeding stopped.
I was also told cerelle and cerazette were the same.

Cerezette and cerelle are the same active ingredient- 75 microgram desogestrel.

Technically they should be the same - cerelle is the generic and tons cheaper. You do hear anecdotal reports of different formulations not suiting people but it is the same active ingredient.

If you definitely want cerazette I think you can buy it privately still ?

I’m now wondering if anyvresearch has been done on genuine comparison between generic and original ... off to pubMed!

HollyBollyBooBoo · 19/03/2018 18:43

It's the same active ingredient, why do you need a particular brand?

Been on it for years, no periods, no problems.

KochabRising · 19/03/2018 18:49

Sorry should clarify that by formulations I mean the inert carrier stuff not the drug itself.
It should be equivalent. I think the FDA requires genetics to be within a few percent of efficacy/absorption etc and it can’t be clinically significant

Cheeseaddict1 · 19/03/2018 18:50

It suited me brilliantly
No periods at all, massively reduced my headaches and migraines too.
I took Cerazette and Cerelle interchangeably dependant on with pharmacy I went to and never noticed any difference

NeilTheSloth · 19/03/2018 18:51

I had no issues with cerazette, currently on Cerelle with no issues also. No periods, mood swings, any side effects really.

However, it’s not the same for everyone! Hormonal contraceptives are so variable. Just wanted to put a positive story out there :)

FrolickingForklift · 19/03/2018 18:53

Worked fine for me, no issues after the initial getting used to it. No periods which, quite frankly, the best side effect I've ever had. Sex drive was not diminished one little bit Blush

QuilliamCakespeare · 19/03/2018 18:55

Brilliant. No periods. No migraines. Came off it and got pregnant straight away. Back on it now.

Namelesswonder · 19/03/2018 18:59

Love it! Been on it 13 years on and off (2 pregnancies). No problems conceiving, no periods while on it, no weight gain. Slight drop in libido but that could also be the result of the pregnancies rather than the drug!

DwangelaForever · 19/03/2018 19:07

I was on cerazette twice and loved it. Came off it twice to get pregnant and my cycles returned after 1 month.

I would say not to trust it for a full month though - I fell unexpectedly pregnant on it last December midway through my first packet (it's supposed to be fine after 7 days). Sadly that pg ended in a miscarriage, but I'd still be cautious.

4yoniD · 19/03/2018 19:11

I've been on it 7 years. I remember having a couple of months of constant spotting daily when I started but just as I was about to give up, it stopped and I haven't had a period since.

As far as side effects I've had to stop wearing contact lenses as they aren't comfy all day anymore, and I have more facial hair than I used to, but I can't prove either are down to the cerazette (both are listed under possible side effects). It seems like a fair trade for no more periods :)

Crazycatlady123 · 19/03/2018 19:16

I was on cerazette for 10 years and loved it! Took a while to settle into it initially, was bleeding frequently for a couple of months but stayed with it and so glad I did - no periods or period pain woo hoo!

Came off it to start trying for a baby and got pregnant very quickly, which was fortunate. Since having my baby, cerazette hasn’t worked for me this this time around but everyone’s different Smile

TheGrumpySquirrel · 19/03/2018 20:02

Cerelle and cerazette are exactly the same thing
