Jaydess

I just wanted to give my experience of the jaydess coil as I couldn't much info about it at all before I had it fitted.

It is the new coil, made by the same people as the merina but its a quarter of the dose (eqiv of one pill a month) and smaller so is mostly aimed at women who haven't had children. It is only effective for 3 years vs. 5 years for the merina.

It has only been available for a short time in this country and my clinic don't stock it but i was able to get it on prescription for them to fit.

I had a baby three months ago and had the coil fitted six weeks ago. I am ebf.

I choose to have the jaydess as I'm usually rubbish with hormones (have tried many different pills unsuccessfully and was using condoms before ttc) but was put off by the side effects of the copper coil, and the dose of hormones is so small i thought it was worth a try.

Insertion was fine, I didn't actually feel it but I'm told that is normal of you've just had a baby. And I got the usual cramps expected from coil insertion but they eased off after the few days. I have had breakthrough bleeding but only a small amount (this could have been reduced as I'm breastfeeding).

In terms of side effects since insertion, the only thing i have noticed is occasional bloating which has eased as quickly as it appeared.

I know that different people have different experiences but I just wanted to share mine.

It may be useful to know that there is an alternative to the merina and copper coils.

Hello, So i have had the Jaydess coil for just under a year now and i have experience big weight gain. I have recently started slimming world, and I am worried for the next time i show up there and get weighed. Because i have stuck completely to the diet, but I am not sure if the jaydess is going to restrict me from losing Weight? Has anybody been able to lose weight okay on the Jaydess? I would appreciate any experience on this thank you.

Off to get my jaydess put today. Tired of being tired and down and crampy all the time. Here’s hoping this works.

I have just had Jaydess removed today. I had it in for just under 2 years- insertion was fine. I had horrendous headaches for a month but persevered and al seemed well. BUT. My skin has been terrible, I've had anxiety, fatigue, low libido, my boobs kept growing and I've gained and gained weight no matter what I did. I didn't make the connection with Jaydess at first, I thought I had an under active thyroid as this runs in my family, but when I was tested this all came back ok.
Then someone suggested it could be hormonal and after reading posts about Jaydess it seems lots of women are having some of these issues, so I've had it removed! Fingers crossed the weight will come off and I will start to feel happier and healthier again- I have moved to Natural Cycles family planning, I am over putting hormones into my body.

Just an update- in the weeks since removing the coil I've lost 10lbs despite being on holiday and, while not going mad, not denying myself either. My skin is better, my sex drive is back and I've stopped feeling like I'm going insane.
I am over hormonal contraception- I know it works for many but for me the side effects are just not worth it.
Using Natural Cycles and condoms from now on!

Hey Chendy78,

I had my Jaydess coil removed 2 weeks ago today for many reason. The biggest was weight gain, 25lbs in one year of having it in and I’ve actually been eating a lot better then beige having it. :(
Also, cystic acne on my face and chest it was horrible.
My question to you is how long did it take for your period to rerun? My face is definitely getting better but I haven’t lost one ounce yet which is heart breaking.
Any feedback would be great.
Thanks so much

@trucknroll

Hey so your symptoms sound identical to mine and I was wondering as I can't see you posted back, what the outcome was as I really don't know what else to expect at the moment, I just had the Jaydess inserted a week ago and I have had such horrible cramping, which if it's worth it then I am fine but if it didn't subside or you didn't get on well with it, it might be that it's not for me. Everyone's experiences seem so different and yours is literally the same as me so I wanted to check :)

Thanks!

I wanted to share my experience with Jaydess. I've had it for two years so far and have mixed feeling about it.

  • the insertion was very painful, even though I took a high dose of painkillers before that, but tolerable and quick.
  • I had some cramps after and felt generally achy and a bit nauseated, but went back to work after having it inserted (which was probably a mistake).
  • I did experience some anxiety and depression symptoms, but I felt my mood actually stabilised since I had it inserted.
  • no weight gain or hair loss - I lost about 3kg on it, but I found it harder to lose weight.
  • no pregnancy.
  • periods are much lighter and fairly regular. No breakthrough bleeding.

The main issue that I have are cramps, which I thought would go away after a while, so I persevered. I think they did get better, even thought I get achy around period time, but I started getting lower back aches. Drs suspected PID, displacement or cysts - it was none of that.

The lower back pain started about a year and has been getting progressively worse to a point where I can't sleep, struggle to lie down or get up and have to take pain medication for it.

Turns out I started to develop spinal disc degeneration, which could've been caused by the fact that the hormone used causes joints to become less stable and prone to injury as your body prepares for childbirth.

I am probably going to take it out to avoid further damage once my checks are done.

I think k it is important that women are aware of this risk, as it is something that is not listed on the side effects, instead the manufacturer just says "back pain".
