Jaydess

I just wanted to give my experience of the jaydess coil as I couldn't much info about it at all before I had it fitted.

It is the new coil, made by the same people as the merina but its a quarter of the dose (eqiv of one pill a month) and smaller so is mostly aimed at women who haven't had children. It is only effective for 3 years vs. 5 years for the merina.

It has only been available for a short time in this country and my clinic don't stock it but i was able to get it on prescription for them to fit.

I had a baby three months ago and had the coil fitted six weeks ago. I am ebf.

I choose to have the jaydess as I'm usually rubbish with hormones (have tried many different pills unsuccessfully and was using condoms before ttc) but was put off by the side effects of the copper coil, and the dose of hormones is so small i thought it was worth a try.

Insertion was fine, I didn't actually feel it but I'm told that is normal of you've just had a baby. And I got the usual cramps expected from coil insertion but they eased off after the few days. I have had breakthrough bleeding but only a small amount (this could have been reduced as I'm breastfeeding).

In terms of side effects since insertion, the only thing i have noticed is occasional bloating which has eased as quickly as it appeared.

I know that different people have different experiences but I just wanted to share mine.

It may be useful to know that there is an alternative to the merina and copper coils.

Hello. I had Jaydess inserted during my period last Tuesday and the bleeding became very light (very small amount of brownish blood) over a few days. I had sex for the first time after having Jaydess inserted on Saturday and since then my bleeding has become much heavier again and is fresh red blood. I'm worried that it has somehow become dislodged... any idea if bleeding becoming heavier again like this is normal?? @leolynntino sounds similar to your experience?

thundernlightning · 09/08/2016 21:44

Hey Emily

I can only speak for myself but mine has been coming and going. Finally tapered right off after 4 weeks only to come back for a few days (period, maybe?) and then taper off again. Hopefully yours will settle too!

In general, I think I'm over the worst with the Jaydess. I do wish my healthcare practitioners has been more upfront about the possible emotional side effects and the bleeding. I would have put off getting it till I was further along postpartum.

Shawna2016 · 26/08/2016 08:14

I had the jaydess fitted in June. It was a little painful and I had period cramps and bleeding for a few days after. Over the past few weeks I have had some spotting and small cramps. I also noticed I got a few spots on my face and back over the past few weeks.

However I've mainly noticed a lot of hair loss about a month after the jaydess was inserted. It comes out in clumps every time I comb my hair. It's very upsetting. I am thinking of getting it removed. Did anyone else experience this? Also if you got it removed, how long did it take your hair to get back to normal??

ConfusedMary · 27/08/2016 03:59

I too am struggling to find much in the way of info of the Jaydess coil and just wanted to see if anyone else had the side effects that I seem to of experienced:

I've gone through countless alternatives before I got here. The cooper coil which caused me to have constant thrush and eventually bv, the marina that caused awful anxiety and low mood and the normal mini pill that I was taken off due to my mother having a blood clot. I opted for the Jaydess because quite frankly I felt I was running out of options.

My problem now is that I seem to be getting fissures or small cuts that I have never had before. I keep getting told this is not related but it's only started since this coil!? I don't have bv anymore and they have tested me, but I still don't think I'm quite how I was down there! I can cope with the swelling as I've been told that would settle but the cuts and the feeling of being unclean are really starting to get me down.

I've been told there's a pill which would be safe for me which works like the Jaydess coil, has anyone had experience of that?

Sedw17 · 14/09/2016 02:01

I got the jaydess about 2 months ago, I had an on and off period for a month and half, about 4 weeks of that was heavy heavy bleeding. The rest were spotting and such, when I had the period I had bad cramps as usual for me, and once it went away I get cramps every other day and these are becoming unbearable, at my check up my doctor said to wait it out til about 3 months and it should get better, also said it was still it the right position, jurist wondering if anyone else has experienced these horrible cramps and any relief methods as ibuprofen and what not don't help at all! Thanks

Mina101 · 14/09/2016 15:33

Sedw17- I have had unbearable cramps also and I'm taking Cocodamol ( a prescription drug) alongside ibuprofen.

Shawna2016 · 14/09/2016 20:28

Has anyone else experienced hair loss?

Emsmay97 · 23/09/2016 01:53

Hi, I had the jaydess fit about a month ago and have been experiencing tender breasts (so tender it hurts to wear no bra) and have experienced stomache pains and a few spots, I used aloe Vera gel day and night afternoon washing my face and they have cleared up, so this is good news. Burberry has anyone been experiencing any of these symptoms?

DoctorBeat · 23/09/2016 02:05

I work in an fp clinic. I have the mirena and have never had a period since I had it fitted. I also do not experience any hormonal side effects that are any worse than what I would experience in a natural cycle. The mirena is actually licensed to help problematic bleeding, and whilst the Jaydess isn't yet, there is evidence that it will still reduce bleeding significantly. Also, it is narrower and shorter so could be an alternative for those with a narrow cervix or small uterine cavity, I.e not had children by vb. It is also a very effective contraceptive, and theoretically could cause less hormonal side effects as has less hormone. Hope you get on well with yours! Smile

DoctorBeat · 23/09/2016 02:13

Btw- all hormonal methods need about 3 months settling in time. Bleeding and side effects will likely settle

Jaydess Coil!!!!

This a post talking about my personal experience with the Jaydess Coil.

After much deliberation I decided to have the coil inserted in April. I have heard a lot of great things about it and known of many friends recommending it to me. What initially always put me off it, was the insertion anyhow, one-day I plucked up the courage to have it inserted as I wasn't having much luck with taking the pill orally.
The insertion was slightly uncomfortable but over in a matter of 30 seconds. My doctor said I would experience period like pains and was to take paracetamol over the next few hours. After, 4-5 days I was still having to take pain killers as the pain continued and became much worse. Finally after 8-10 days the pain started to stop and I felt completely fine.

Come May/June I felt fine and didn't think I felt much different.
I have always suffered with bad period pains and my period was regular and lasted for about 5-7 days. I had my 6 week check up and told the nurse that my periods were very heavy and painful. She told me to continue with it for another month or so and see how I feel then, so I did.

Come, July/August - I begin to really feel a change in myself. I'm a 24 year old outgoing happy person usually but my moods and self-esteem took a big dip! I have never suffered with anxiety before and never really understood it when people spoke about it.
At the time there was a lot going on in my life, moving in with my boyfriend, changing my job etc and thought natural anxieties are going to happen when theres big changes in your life. I continued to battle with myself the feeling of confusion as to why I wasn't quiet feeling like myself and thought time will pass and so will this feeling of the unknown and over-thinking - but it didn't!
September - It's been a whole 6 months since i've had the coil inserted and I've never felt so low in all my life! The only way I can really describe this feeling was 'DISCONNECTED'. My periods were still heavy and so was my anxiety. The effect the coil has had on me is phenomenal, It completely changed my moods and self-esteem, I was constantly feeling emotional. I would question everything and looks at certain things in a ways I would never even dream of usually! I was genuinely beginning to think I was going mad. I would notice that all of these feelings were heighten massively when I was due or on period.
It was only when I started to put a timeline together of why I was feeling like this and why I was having days of feeling happy and others feeling nothing at all when it came to me.
The coil has had a significant impact on me not only mentally but physically i'd gained 2 stone and no matter what I was doing I wasn't having much luck loosing any weight.
After reading many personal experiences from this forum and can't thank you ladies enough for helping me find the root cause of my problem!
I have made a doctors appointment for next week to have the coil removed and hopefully get myself back on track and start feeling like myself again.

I will update this post once i've had it removed and let you ladies know any progress.

All I know is that no woman is the same, all our experiences differ however, this is mine and I hope that this post helps someone if they felt they were having a similar experience to mine.

Beanie779 · 08/11/2016 19:29

I had the Jaydess coil fitted in June 2016 and have experienced the following:

  • Lots of stomach pain
  • Weight gain
  • Hair loss

I had it fitted because the mini pill was giving me stomach cramps and my doctor didn't want me to go back to the normal pill (microgynon). I would have been happy to stay on the usual pill as I didn't have any problems with it.

Anyway, I went to my local family planning clinic to have it fitted and they were great...Unfortunately so was the pain! After having it fitted I was a little sore, then during the next week I had some pain but nothing I couldn't cope with. It was during the second week that the trouble started. I was at work when I started having the chills, naseua and waves of stomach pain. I took nurofen but that only lessened the pain, it didn’t get rid of it. Since then I have continued to have waves of pain and for me that's the biggest turn off.

The hair loss seems to have gone but not the pain and I have gained a couple of pounds since the coil fitting, but no more.

When I went to the family planning clinic they did actually say my doctor had no reason to take me off my usual pill so I'm thinking of just asking for that again and getting the coil removed.

Hi there

I had the same problem with cystic acne side effects. I have just had mine removed 5 days ago (I had it for 5 months) I wanted to ask how long it took for your acne to improve. My face is a mess and I'm desperate for it to go back to what it was before. Any feedback would be so appreciated.

Thanks :)

Boatgirl88 · 26/11/2016 19:11

Hi all

Thought I would add my experience in here.

I previously had the SKYLA IUD for 3 years. I was pretty happy with the skyla and had minimal side effects. I had to have it removed after 3 years (as it only lasts 3 years)

I waited 4 months before getting a new device inserted. I had a little problem with acne during this time. But nothing severe.

I had the Jaydess IUD inserted on the 7th of July 2016. The insertion was surprisingly painless. The Dr in France I used was excellent! (Skyla insertion was agony)

Initially I had a lot of spotting with clots that lasted about 5 weeks. After about 3 weeks, all hell broke loose on my face. Cystic acne like I have never seen before. Large nodules popped up all over my forehead, chin, and cheeks. My skin also became incredibly oily and pores increased in size.

I did a lot of reading and some people said these side effects would subside. So I stuck it out for 5 miserable months of huge cysts all over my face and neck. I tried antibiotics, and every Dermatoligist prescribed topical treatment that was advised- nothing helped.

I finally gave in this week and had it removed on the 22nd of November. I'm really hoping my skin doesn't get worse with a new hormonal change. Fingers crossed for my skin to improve soon. It quite literally is ruining my life.

Although my skin was the worst side affect. I also noticed fatigue, anxiety and mild depression associated with having the IUD.

Needless to say, I wont be using the Jaydess again.

Samy1 · 25/02/2017 01:00

I just wanted to give my account of my first month with Jaydess.
I am 35 and no children. I read some horror stories but I guess people don't tend to write the good.
I was previously on the contraceptive pill Cileste.
Didn't enjoy insertion - but it was fine - I was injected with some anesthetic.
Two days of bleeding. And then nothing. My skin is clearer than ever - it really wasn't on Cileste. Nothing so far to complain about. Appetite seems normal - always pretty high but I'm definitely no worse than Cileste hunger. I've lost weight but I am eating well at the moment. Wish I'd had it years ago.

telescope1234 · 24/04/2017 22:28

Hi All,

just wanted to ask if anyone has experienced problems with joint pain, espcially around the knees, ankles and elbows since having Jaydess?
I've had mine for nearly two months now. I'm not sure if it's connected to the Jaydess but I am feeling very weak and tired and constantly spotting and cramping as well... I don't want to have it taken out until my body has had more time to adjust but I'm feeling anxious about it and there's so little written about it online.

Any thoughts very gratefully received,

Thank you Smile

Blahblahblahyadayadayada · 25/04/2017 00:32

I don't have experience of the Jaydess but when I took micronor (a progesterone only pill) I remember having aching legs- mainly my hips. Perhaps the progesterone isn't agreeing with you? Ot perhaps it needs more time to settle? I had a Mirena and I don't recall pain but it caused other problems so I had it removed. Jaydess has less hormone tha Mirena though. Sorry if this didn't help; perhaps other people
May have some answers. Have you been back to the GP?

Joffmognum · 25/04/2017 00:36

The jaydess failed me Angry

I ended up keeping the baby and we are now more than happy but remember it's still worth using a condom!

telescope1234 · 25/04/2017 14:29

Thanks for your message! It's good to hear about your experience and yes maybe it is the progesterone even though it's such a low dose...Heading to back to the doctor next week so will update afterwards! Have you found a better alternative now? Smile

Blahblahblahyadayadayada · 25/04/2017 17:14

Not yet. I've made a list of everything I've tried and the problems I've had with each one. I'm probably just one of the awkward ones who can't find one that suits.
Hope you feel better and it goes well with the GP.

Jazmalinda · 05/10/2017 21:24

Ive made a blog about my experience with it here: jaydess-the-guineapig.tumblr.com

Samy1 · 14/11/2017 17:49

Would you be so kind as to let me know if things got better when it was removed?

Tammynxx · 20/11/2017 13:35

I havw the jaydess in about 6 months and im still experiencing acne and haor loss which ive never had im 22 with no kids and its making me super self conscious does it stop after a while or will i have to get it taken out ? I thought it would take my body a while to get used to and it would stop but hasnt yet and my hair is so thin now and im starting to get parts that look almost bald thanks for tge help

Honey2468 · 26/11/2017 01:38

ConfusedMary
I really hope you have managed to get things sorted by now but just in case you were still struggling. It is called Norgeston. This is the same active ingridient in the mirena, Jaydess, Skyla, Lilleta and morning after pill Levonelle. Obviously taking this form of pill would give you a higher dose what you get daily from your coil so you could react differently to it. But if it is the physical existance of the coil which is causing you problems and not the hormone it contains, then this might be worth a try for yourself. As I say though, I really hope you have all of this sorted by now though.

rosie4jam · 09/05/2018 08:01

My experience of Jaydess. Hair loss! My hair thinned all over and I’ve receded. My hair is very fine at my temples now and my hairline higher. It happened very gradually so I was doubting it was happening but it got to the point where it was obvious. Not just to me. Bayer (the manufacturer) won’t tell me if it will grow back. I get the impression after a couple of emails (ignored it til I chased etc) that they don’t know or care if my hair loss is permanent.
