Mirena coil

I have been thinking about the mirena coil for ages but the more I read up about it the more it scares me.

I am on anti depresants and I have read that the coil can make it worse or cause depression where there was none before. Plus a multitude of other side effects.

Would any mirena ladies be kind enough to tell how they have faired with it. Good and bad stories.

Hi sorry for highjack I had one fitted 5days ago and have felt like I have PMT, felt my mood slowly getting worse been snapping at DH and DD and stupidly hungry. I have baby 10wks old too so thought it was just tirdeness but hubbie today said no you been in fowl mood last couple days, v worried now its the coil. I reacted like this to pill before so just stopped it but this was horrid getting it put in i dread getting it out again :(

Mine hurt like hell getting put in but was totally painless getting it out. I had very bad depression before having the coil, so I can't say that it made me depressed but in the three years I had it my depression did not get better in spite of lots of medication and counselling! After three years of spots and being overweight (and hubby complaining cos he didn't like feeling the strings!) I had it removed. It didn't seem to make a huge difference straight away but I would say that after six months my mood has been generally lighter and my depression much less severe. Big warning though. I tried to go back to natural family planning (which I used very successfully before having kids) and found that my cycle was all over the place with no evidence of ovulation taking place. nine months on and I'm still not ovulating (as far as I know). I've also recently been diagnosed with pelvic inflammatory disease, but I don't know if that was related. Personally I wouldn't touch hormonal contraceptives again with a barge pole...

Had it removed after 10 months of hell. Never stopped bleeding but for about a fortnight of that time, mood swings, spots, bloating, NO sex drive. Awful.

Had mine fitted two months ago. I found it painless when inserted and have had two lots of spot bleeding for a couple of days each time but apart from that feel fine Smile
