Help with finger placement on the violin

DD is going through a patch of 'I'll never be any good at the violin'. For some reason she's struggling with stretching her second finger (eg playing d on the a string - stretched second finger and close third). I don't play an instrument but try to help support her as much as I can. I would not have picked up in practice of a piece that the note was not quite right bcos of finger placement, ie that it should have been higher sounding. Her teacher pointed it out.

Is there any resource that might help me to understand a bit better finger postion in relation to notes?

Thanks Framey. It's hard work but I believe that her music does bring her joy.

(also as a point not sure if it's been mentioned yet), but the way she holds the voilin at the end - is her positioning right - you need to have a strong arm, stand back straight as well & a wrist which is pushed out a bit, it helps you to get your fingers around into the right places.

failing that is it the right size ? (she should be able to reach to the bottom and curl her fingers around the bit where the keys (black bits) are.

re the note thing, it will come with time don't worry about that, I did lessons from 7 until 14, and still do now sometimes (althou fingers are not as quick lol) it also helps to have the tape on the finger board, and also helps to write the notes under each one on the music. tbh it didn't take too long for me to pick up the note bit - it will help if her teacher lets her tune the violin to the piano herself as well. (again comes with practice thou)

one thing I regret stopping tbh.

it will come in time thou.
