DC knew they were cooked at just 5ft, 15 years old in a room of third year grads, who are - quite rightly - on another level haha. Pretty happy to have been in the room in the first place. Super news for everyone who got something! Congrats to those who have kept returning year after year. See you all next year for another round.

Just a reminder that for anyone who’s happy to be a little less anonymous and would like to find other parents / DC involved in the same projects, we have a sister group on Facebook:

https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1D8MWagHKb/?mibextid=wwXIfr

My phone won’t let me access the group from the link. Can you give me the name and I will try and find it? Thank you.

I told dd about her NMW once she was home and she was over the moon! Already off researching! She's doing Unbound, which apparently is already really well developed (was workshopped with BYMT and has a full soundtrack). Does anyone know much about it? X

If you recalled and haven't had an email I would get in touch in case an email has gone astray..assume you have checked Junk?

Hi there. We did receive an offer but in the email it said there would be a separate rolecall emailing being sent where we can accept or decline, which we didn't seem to get. I have emailed in to ask...

My DD did Unbound with BYMT and LOVED it - it is a great show. Really fun and the music is catchy. Storyline like High School Musical meets The Craft! There are some songs on Spotify and there are some clips from a concert the composer did with professional performers in London on Insta I believe. I am sure your DD will love it.

Well done on all the dc who have received offers.

I'd be interested to know if there is anyone on here with a show offer who is an NYMT first timer? Just curious whether that makes a difference or not. Or maybe the group on this thread is not representative?

My DD was a first timer last year and got into Fame and she is so happy to get a part this year. She fell in love with NYMT last year as she says the people you meet are supportive, likeminded and they are well cared for and have independence. For her it’s grown confidence and she has had other training and residential experiences but NYMT has been most affirming!

Thank you, that's lovely to hear. We've been playing the music and it's fab, so catchy. Hopefully it'll make its way to a full blown show soon if this is the second time it's being workshopped.

No idea how I managed to post this 3 times - sorry!

betswina · 27/02/2026 17:55

Congratulations to those whose DC have been cast, and hope they all have a wonderful experience. Hugs to those who (like me) are supporting DC who haven't. It's reassuring to hear that nearly everyone has been on the same roller coaster! I'm sure DD will want to be back next year to try again. Thanks to everyone for the advice and good company :)

I wonder how many of the fame cast are recast in WSS this year?

I feel in my (limited) experience of performing arts it’s not necessarily talent that will get you a particular role. There is no doubt there are loads of talented DCs around. It’s if the casting director can see you play the role better than anyone else they have seen.

After all these DC’s are performers. In theory, they should be able to play any role. There isn’t much to choose between the talent of cast members. But I guess you need to be convincing in the audition.

For ensemble, I think you do need to be able to dance.

Sorry - long post alert! - my dd has been offered Everyday which she is over the moon about. This would be her first NYMT year. However she now has a clash which was unexpected ( partly because she didn't imagine in her wildest dreams she would be offered the show). She unfortunately can't do both. Has anyone got any older more experienced yp's who could advise on if it would be madness to turn down an NYMT show and ask for a skills course instead? my dd is 14 ( nearly 15) and wants to apply to drama school at 17/18 is having done a nymt show seen as a good thing for drama school applications etc? I can see from this group that she would have an amazing experience doing Everyday and be surrounded by fantastically talented yp"s and learn so much - but my dd is very much torn and doesn't want to let people down locally either. thanks in advance for any advice!

Truetoself · 27/02/2026 21:35

Depends what the clash is with? My DD didn’t come on our ski holiday last year as it clashed with her recall audition ….

redgee · 27/02/2026 21:39

@NCMO2G no experience but we are the same age and same aspirations, and we were ready to prioritise NYMT because we feel it would be more valuable. We have prior commitments at Easter that had we had to choose, we would have done NYMT (but we didn't get recalled so life was easier as we could choose a Skills Workshop without conflict.)

There’s also no guarantees of getting an NYMT show or NMW in future years, which I would be factoring in to my decision making. Will the local opportunity be there again (or something similar) next year?

congrats to your YP, it is a wonderful position to be in!

doesanybodyhaveamap · 27/02/2026 21:44

@NCMO2G ultimately she needs to make the choice that feels right to her. But what I will say is that it’s notoriously tough to get a show in the 14-16 age bracket - she’s done exceptionally well to be cast. Until you’ve experienced NYMT it’s very difficult to appreciate the quality and standard of what they produce. It’s akin to a professional production (in fact, counts as a professional credit on Spotlight unlike most youth productions).

Entry to vocational performing arts schools will be based on audition rather than on her CV. But NYMT is a very well respected organisation and having done a show with them will flag to schools that she’s of a certain standard before she gets through the door.

Will the team behind the local offer understand the amazing opportunity she’s been offered? I would think they’ll appreciate this is a huge deal and be supportive.

Is nymt and bymt both considered similar and both difficult to get into to? This is our first year auditioning and we opted out of nymt (it clashed with show rehearsals) and did bymt instead. Getting offered a production in this summer. My daughter has also been back and forward with deciding to go as she has a summer clash too. But I think bymt is worth it.

Others here have more experience with BYMT than we do, but I believe their shows can also be listed on Spotlight profiles.

Both are well respected and there is a high standard of entry. Anecdotally, some say NYMT is ‘harder’ to get cast in a full production - for starters there are less of them and they also cast into specific roles whereas BYMT set a bar, offer out shows to everyone above that bar and then cast later on. But we know people who’ve been unsuccessful with BYMT and cast by NYMT and vice versa. They just do things a bit differently.

@doesanybodyhaveamap this is really helpful thankyou. The local group are also a fantastic opportunity and trying to deliver a similar level of support for the local yp' by bringing in a west end MD and lots of training but obviously it is not NYMT. They are being understanding of my dd's offer from NYMT as they know what it means.
@redgee thanks for you reply, I hadn't considered that about future years, good advice. It is really hard to know what to advise her to do. I have emailed NYMT to see what her options might be too. will have to sleep on it. lesson learnt though! thanks @Truetoself

Comefromaway · 28/02/2026 00:40

I have great respect for local grouos and some out on phelnomensl shows. But this is a national opportunity.

it’s like the difference between playing for a local football team or being picked first the England squad. Or competing in county athletics as opposed to the British championships.

Mrsvwolf · 28/02/2026 09:02

Hi folks, that's for all the info and friendly supportive chat. It has been helpful to follow quietly. Our daughter (is that dd???) is amazed to be offered a NMW.. they said a casting email will follow so we are now waiting on that. Any knowledge how long this takes? Congratulations everyone for all our kids putting themselves out there and I hope those who are disappointed this time are feeling alright and ready for the next opportunity today. Xx

Hi. Thanks for all the info we've gleaned from this thread! This is our first time navigating the NYMT process. Child has been offered the new musical workshop School Play. Just wondered whether anyone knew whether new musicals get performed to parents or anything at the end of the week? (Thinking through what leave we need to book etc)

Definitely an extract of the piece is performed to parents etc at the end of the week when they come to pick up.
