Just realised we’re a bit close to the end!

OP posts:
Porseb · 16/11/2025 11:29

Mine’s loving it - catching up with friends she hasn’t seen for a few years

itsgettingweird · 16/11/2025 11:49

Glittertwins · 16/11/2025 11:29

She’s not the only one. Someone got DQ in the relay for missing the wall at the turn which was probably due to that.
Fortunately mine has done quite a few SC races in that pool so is used to it (still doesn’t like it!)

Ds managed to just about touch the wall on a turn LC at LAC 🤦‍♀️😂

It is much easier done SC when the turn T isn’t so clear!

My DD is at BUCS this weekend too!

She is struggling to judge turns with the boom that doesn't reach down to the bottom of the pool, but she is enjoying the weekend away.

That’s fab. How’s she enjoying her uni swimming? And Uni in general?

We popped up to see her a couple of weeks ago and she seemed happy, chatty and keen for us to feed her "expensive" restaurant food! She fell on her feet joining the swimclub; social ents are a big part of the club.

I have a hunch we'll be busy ordering new swim kit over Christmas (her old swimbag has to be 10 years old now and is most definitely showing its age)!

Ooohhh so glad your DD had a great swim. I’ve no idea who she is but I’m happy for her!!!!

My ds has a few para swimming friends up there.

We aren’t going to Sheffield glitter. DS never does winters due to timings (and being SC!). We are up in Northampton the following week at their L1 LC meet as its world para sanctioned. (Plus SE suggested all long listed athletes do it although he has 0 chance of actually qualifying 🤷‍♀️😂)

Oh is that the one on 20/21 December? I was planning on entering my DS into that as it’s vaguely local to us, and after almost having given up swimming after his last classification he cut back training but keeps knocking chunks off times when he does swim. It always been a good one for para as well.

Glittertwins · 16/11/2025 12:26

Good to hear she’s enjoying it @Madcats

Yes that’s the one. I’ve heard great things about it although we’ve never been. Northampton are known to be a great club for para swimming too.

Be great if you’re there - you’ll work out who I am as I’ll be the one holding ds up onto the blocks so he doesn’t fall off 😂

itsgettingweird · 16/11/2025 12:42

Although you’ll have to get a wriggle on entering where as the closing dates the 21st November.

whereonthestair · 16/11/2025 13:26

I am just waiting for some entry times to be uploaded from this weekend as I was going to do the entry once I knew which events to do! The events have changed for DS with his new classification which has made life complicated as his best event is no longer an event for his class, but he might try to keep it and swim up into a different class as he has a qualifying time for a higher class already… a discussion to have after he’s swum this afternoon.

whereonthestair · 16/11/2025 13:28

As For getting on with it I know! But DS has been doing mocks so he won’t answer anything which doesn’t directly relate to an exam spec since mid October but he hates me just entering him anyway!

Glittertwins · 16/11/2025 16:28

Another good one @porseb 😁

Thank-you 😀 - she is having fun at this meet (the records dropping at this meet are 🔥)

Glittertwins · 16/11/2025 16:50

It’s been pretty good watching. I wasn’t expecting some of them to go that have been held for so long. Michael Rock’s record was almost the same age as some of the youngest swimmers.

itsgettingweird · 16/11/2025 17:13

Yes lots of records blown this weekend which is always great to see. Nice to see so many para swimming records too.

Have put the entry in, I may see if I can work out who you are in person, if that’s not too stalkerish. Not yet sure if I am going to be poolside or not yet.

itsgettingweird · 20/11/2025 16:13

Of course it’s not. Once accepted entries have been published and we both know we are going I’m more than happy to be known.

Most people here have worked out who my ds is 🤣

Satisfiedwithanapple · 20/11/2025 18:52

Tbh I haven’t but I probably will via that meet. A couple of swimmers from ours went last year, dd1 is in the autumn of her career and dd2 is much better short course so it’s one I’d leave. Tbf with the arena league stuff I’ve posted it would be easy to decipher our club and hence who the dds are aka the ones with the same surnames of the ages suggested 😂😂

Satisfiedwithanapple · 20/11/2025 18:55

Dd2 is small she protests she’s average but not for a swimmer she isn’t. And I’m 5’10 so to me she looks like a midget 🤦🏻‍♀️. Shes about 5’3 at 13.

Glittertwins · 21/11/2025 05:53

Still got time to grow at 13 though?

OP posts:
Satisfiedwithanapple · 21/11/2025 07:38

I don’t think she’ll grow much more - she takes after dh’s side. But time will tell.

itsgettingweird · 21/11/2025 07:42

Growth spurts can take you by surprise (but family height also matters!)

Ds has grown the last 18 months outbid the blue 🤷‍♀️ (but then my dad and brother are both over 6”!)

However I’m not sure height is the biggest factor in swimming as much as it once was considered. Abbie Wood isn't tall and she’s absolutely smashed her career.

Satisfiedwithanapple · 21/11/2025 08:26

Indeed, it was just a comment re short course/ long course really.

Glittertwins · 21/11/2025 09:36

Height can be a big advantage at the end of a race but smaller can be better on turns as there is less to flip over - would be better for SC events as more turns. Not sure how true this is but it was said that Peaty was far better over LC as he was simply too big for SC turns as he lost time on them.
Two of the upcoming male breaststrokers are tiny in comparison to Peaty, Corbeau but they are absolute dynamite.

Hi all. This is a really helpful thread - my daughter is 11 and is (mostly) really enjoying her swimming journey. We live in the Channel Islands so big competitions are limited but occasionally we get off-island. It can be a bit of a struggle to keep her motivated without a goal though!

itsgettingweird · 26/11/2025 12:44

Your he’s same county and region as me then! How’s the reveal situation with flights to Southampton after the channel airline went into administration. I’ve been concerned about that affecting CI swimmers.
