Are we overspending on extra- curricular?!

Please can I have some comparatives.

We spend around £2100 per term on extra curricular for 2 kids ages 10 & 9. London based.
Clubs are : dd 9 ballet, language , tutoring ,swimming. She did do an instrument but we dropped it this term given the rising costs.
Dd10- Gymnastics, swim, language, tutoring ( costs peanuts compared to dd9 costs as no 11 plus prep going on with her) also did an instrument and dropped it recently due to costs.

I don't think we do a crazy lot more than what others in their cohort are doing and didn't see the instruments as excessive- dh did and says although we can afford clubs it's way to much to spending on extra curricular. So is he right. ?

How much do you spend totally per year and what clubs do you get for that?

I can't face adding it all up but extracurriculars for eldest cost a lot (2:1 swimming, gymnastics, Lamda, dance, ballet, drama, instrument (inc musicianship+ orchestra). Younger dc is in preschool and isn't doing any other classes now, but eventually we'll expect to double the cost. And add a tutor in a couple of years. Swimming is the most expensive but progress has been so much better compared to group lessons. Everything is at London prices, and we have school fees on top.

We seem to do a similar amount to other families around here, and some activities are on school site so I don't count them as an real extra activity, just 50 mins added to the end of school. We're lucky that we don't budget for them, we just look at what's available and pick the activities DD likes. She's in Yr 2 so at the moment she isn't taking anything very seriously and we're letting her try out as many different activities as we can fit in. For us the schedule is more of an issue than the budget.

It’s quite a lot, but then again every family and child is different, so it depends mainly on your budget I think. We spend about 450/month on extracurriculars for 3 children during the school year. The older two have 6 activities each and the youngest has 4. Most of their hobbies are through school, so it’s not too much of a burden, and the only one that requires practice outside of weekly lessons is the musical instrument. We feel it is good for them to be able to try lots of things and work out what they really enjoy and/or are good at.

We spend around £250 pm per child and that's for one activity don't get your children into horses.
