Hi all

Here is the new music thread for January - I hope no one minds me starting it.

I am mum to a son (7) who is learning the piano and trumpet and a daughter (5) who is learning the piano and violin. I am having piano lessons and played the trumpet as a child.

Some of the people on these threads (and their children) are fantastic musicians. Some are more like me. All are welcome.

Thank you to Wafflenose for all the time she has spent managing these threads.

Loose, CONVO is indeed an interesting project. Kids can get involved in the collaboration along the way and it's a massive (two years long) event from what I understand. But I get what Wiifitmama means too...

Well done Rara! And welcome to the new people since I last posted.

It's been quiet(ish) here. DS2 is looking at sixth forms and choosing A levels. And coming round to realising GCSEs are looming!

Tomorrow we have a Festival organised masterclass which DS2 is participating in. Annoyingly it clashes with DS1's uni's slot in unibrass. Unibrass (university brass band contest) is streamed live so usually gets see him.

On our way home after last night's school concert. Pleased to report that we were completely blown away by the playing and the supportive atmosphere, as were any doubts that this was the right place for our ds. If you're considering this avenue for your dc, I'd really recommend attending a concert or two.

Hertsessex · 02/02/2019 13:32

Yes great concert and good advice about going along. Tickets free for Cadogan Hall in March Smile

catshavestaff · 02/02/2019 16:41

School governor with responsibility for music and NCO patron so not a frequent poster but wanted to say that even if the Albert Hall concert seems like a lot of time and effort for a short slot your DC will have a fantastic memory for life. Played in a schools prom 40 years ago and it was an amazing experience to play to that size of audience which I still remember now.

LooseAtTheSeams · 02/02/2019 17:38

cats absolutely! DS1 did several schools proms at RAH and has very happy memories! This will be the third one for DS2 and it's amazing to think in his first one, he had just passed grade 1 cello and now is working on grade 7 - and he appears to have doubled in height!

CruCru · 02/02/2019 18:24

Gosh that sounds amazing, Wafflenose. I bet Rara is thrilled.

cats - you are absolutely right and I know they will look back on it positively. I need to keep my negativity to myself!

Mendingfences · 03/02/2019 10:50

Well done rara, and the opportunity to play RAH sounds amazing (although i appreciate it can also be a pita organisation wise).

We're plodding along fairly peacefully here considering dd1 has 3 performances next week, dd2 has 2 and ds has 1. Luckily the same concerts so all 3 are playing on wednesday, 2 are playing on friday and one on saturday, otherwise i think id be a lot more grey haired than i already am!

Wafflenose · 03/02/2019 12:31

Here she is with some of her stuff. The shield was won by my clarinet quartet. Rara also has two little individual cups, and there are two cups at school, won by Year 6 (including her) and Year 4.

RomanyRoots · 03/02/2019 12:57

Well done Rara absolutely brilliant Star

Boyskeepswinging · 03/02/2019 13:05

Wow, Rara what a haul! Well done!

Lotsofmilkonesugar · 03/02/2019 13:59

Well done Rara, lovely photos 🌟

NeleusTheStatue · 03/02/2019 14:11

Lovely photos! What's happened to her wrist/finger? Did she won all the medals and cups with an injured wrist/finger? If so, double wow.

Boyskeepswinging · 03/02/2019 14:21

Looks like the ribbons from the medals are wrapped around her wrist. I thought she was wearing a splint at first, too, then did a double take Grin

Boyskeepswinging · 03/02/2019 14:22

Oh I've looked again and I think you're right! Blimey, yes, even better done if wearing a splint!
(Apologies for middle aged eyes)

NeleusTheStatue · 03/02/2019 14:54

Only Waffle can confirm who has the middle aged eyes, Boys. Grin

Wafflenose · 03/02/2019 17:13

She has torn the ligaments in her thumb and hasn't been able to play the cello at all. Recorders are fine, clarinet is sore, and she keeps nicking my saxophones.

LooseAtTheSeams · 03/02/2019 17:18

Poor Rara - hope she's able to play her cello again soon.
DS2 seems to have enjoyed his all-day rehearsal today. I left DH in charge of packed lunch as I was working this morning - he certainly was more generous with the extra snacks than I might have been but why not, eh?!

catkind · 03/02/2019 20:19

Oh no, poor rara. What a haul though, you must be super proud of your team!

NeleusTheStatue · 04/02/2019 00:59

Poor Rara... But what's a star! Parenting is a series of worries and proud moments, isn't it? She's done so well! Smile

Mitsouko67 · 04/02/2019 09:16

Gorgeous pic, congratulations!

QueenMabby · 04/02/2019 13:33

Wow! Well done Rara!
No festivals for us for a while but DD has an “informal” concert after school today at which she’s doing piano and cello solos, a piano duet and a couple of pieces with the cello quartet school have recently set up. She’s the youngest and most inexperienced (only been having individual lessons for a couple of terms) so it’ll be interesting to see how that goes. DS has volunteered to go and do his homework in the library so he doesn’t have to listen to any of it! Grin

Mendingfences · 04/02/2019 18:04

Aarrggh 2 more concerts this week. Ds knew but hadnt passed the info on.....

CruCru · 04/02/2019 18:47

Crumbs that sounds like a lot for one person QueenMabby.
