May Music Thread

Have a new thread for May... you all managed to fill the April one!

This is a place to chat about music lessons, exams, practice, aural, theory, performances and anything else you like. We have many regular and occasional posters (some of whom are learning themselves) with children ranging from complete beginners to very advanced. We do try our best to make sure everyone feels welcome!

I am mum to Goo (12) flute and piano, and Rara (9) cello and clarinet. They play in loads of school groups, South West Music School and NCO, although practice isn't going too well at the moment. Later in the week, all three of us are taking part in a big community concert, which will be lovely.

druidsong DDs and DH are about to head out to a Eurovision “party” at a friend’s house. I’m staying home with our little ones (youngest is only 3 months) but will probably watch a bit anyway.

Alexandra if only they’d held the garden party last week!

Doubleup · 12/05/2018 18:51

Eurovision viewing planned here. Usually partake in a bit of Facebook banter with an old Uni housemate and some of his other Facebook friends. We like a bit of cheese in the Double household - and it will take minds off DD1's GCSE this week (only one a year early) and DD2's SATs.

LooseAtTheSeams · 12/05/2018 19:14

'my lovely horse' was the best Alexandra! I hope the garden party/performance goes well. (I'm pretty fed up with the rain.)
I don't think I'm going to be allowed to watch Eurovision, unfortunately!

Didnt manage to see any eurovision here, we were at a family all evening. Music wise dd2 and i are practising marches for national day on thursday, dd1 is polishing audition pieces and ds is doing allsorts. The girls have also been recruited by ds's piano teacher to work on an ensemble project so they are fiddling about with scarborough fair, it's lovely when they work together although it's a bit errm unstable Wink

Kutik73 · 13/05/2018 09:07

Alexandra, was the shed used as a stage for musicians and the audiences/guests were out in the garden? Or everyone could be inside?? If it's latter, the garden must be massive! And if it's former, I'll still join you the posh-shed-envy club... Everything cramped here in London.

Mending, scarborough fair is a lovely piece. I wasn't allowed to watch Eurovision neither. Hope you guys enjoyed it.

We were supposed to go for a riverside walk and lunch at The River Cafe (anyone know the restaurant?) but cancelled as DS developed sour throat and runny nose last few days and today he is pretty dead. He's got to be well as SATs start tomorrow...

Japanese · 13/05/2018 10:32

We also watched Eurovision - although I fell asleep before the results.

Not much to report here. DD is getting quite enthused by the recorder at the moment although am not sure our poor neighbours are loving her attempts at top C on a Sunday morning.

She will be sitting Grade 2 recorder this summer. First Trinity exam experience for her (and me - so I need to get my head around the aural). She's really enjoying it at the moment but she will likely be needing a brace soon so we'll see how that goes.

SATs week for DD this week too.

DS also keen on the viola at the moment but he's only had 2 lessons so far so still a novelty for him!

Hope your ds feels better soon kutik
japanese hope the enthusiasm lasts. alexandra i have been known to purchase multipacks of Black socks to put in performance bags Wink

LooseAtTheSeams · 13/05/2018 13:17

Don’t mention socks - they’re considered a separate life form in this house!
Ooh, Alexandra I fear my posh shed is inferior to the one the Boy played in, since we don’t have sliding doors. However, there is a TV and 2 chairs. DH has dreams of a larger TV and a sofa, though, so I will keep quiet!
I think you actually do need and deserve a posh shed. Smile

raspberryrippleicecream · 13/05/2018 15:46

Our shed contains a desk, chair, a pile of A level revision notes and DD at present. It's her go to study place away from her bedroom

Kutik73 · 13/05/2018 15:57

Our shed has no space for a human being...

Doubleup · 13/05/2018 20:52

And our shed is no place for a human being at the moment....

catkind · 13/05/2018 20:58

folkmamma · 13/05/2018 21:16

Trumpetboysmum · 13/05/2018 22:29

Green hi lovely to hear from you
I loved the cellist too ( well actually we all loved it all) even dd didn't wriggle too much Grin but we were all totally spellbound by Lauren it actually bought a tear to my eye Ds said it didn't just make his spine tingle it shook his bones !!
Sheku was also amazing and we got to sit behind him and his family - Ds loved that
All in all a great day out - still not home yet though

catkind · 13/05/2018 22:55

The Elgar always gets me. Heart on sleeve stuff. I think Natalie Clein will always own it for me though.
Flowers greenleave. Hope the messes come clear soon.

SwayingInTime · 13/05/2018 23:07

I had tears when Lauren finished and would have sobbed if DD hadn't been all 'pull yourself together'! I felt so happy when Robert was playing though and DD loved the cello. It was a wonderful day Grin
