Welcome to wet July (well it's wet here) and a new thread. This is the place where we can talk about all things musical, like music lessons, exams, practice and new instruments. I am a music teacher (woodwind) and have two daughters. Goo is 10 and her first instrument is recorder, although on paper, flute has now caught up. She plays flute in NCO Under 11s, has just received the difficult bits she's meant to work on, so is finally cracking on with sorting out her piccolo. She started piano lessons at Easter and is going fast, currently playing Grade 3 pieces, and working through the Grade 2 sight reading and Dozen a Day books. Rara is 8 and far less keen - we are still currently trying to figure out what she really enjoys so that we can encourage her. But for now, she's learning the recorder and cello, and is between Grade 2 and 3 on both.

Goo did her flute exam on June 23rd, and now won't have any until at least March, or next June if I can push for that. Rara will probably do Grade 3 Recorder at Christmas. I have had a quiet exam term for my pupils - 7 altogether. 4 are already safely through (3 merits and a distinction), we are awaiting results for a Grade 6 Theory, and I have a couple of clarinettists still to go on Monday.

Thanks everyone. Yes, feeling good especially we skipped grade 2. I had a moment of doubt with our teacher as we didnt follow abrsm, he told us that her level is equivalent to G3 so we went for it. Still long way to go hopefully the screechy will go oneday!
Drummer: its still super packed in Regent street Hamleys today. I never find it nice and relaxing in Hamleys however its someone else's treat so surely I can give in once

drummersmum · 03/07/2016 15:57

Lol Green I meant Sunday's the worst day to go but it is her treat and well deserved!!! What kind of toys is she into? With DS it was all Lego, Lego, Lego. Then Nerf came, which I like because it makes them run up and down the stairs and in and out of rooms which I remember doing in the seventies.

Greenleave · 03/07/2016 16:23

Hahaha, yes, it is certainly the worst. She has a budget of £20 today(we spent over however on smth else I wanted to get for them). She chose couple of very small soft toys and I got them some puzzles and colouring pens

Greenleave · 03/07/2016 16:32

These are what she had today, not too sure why as she isnt really a soft toys type ever

drummersmum · 03/07/2016 17:05

[melting] They are cute. This is the only "soft" toy DS ever liked.

Hahaha, thats super funny too. We love Lego, the only issue is we never got them organised, I have more lego in the hoover bag than in the Lego box

Musicmom1 · 03/07/2016 18:28

Well done Green's DD - and my DD loved the choice of toy!

se22mother · 03/07/2016 18:31

Well done minigreenCake

NeverEverAnythingEver · 03/07/2016 19:31

Well done minigreen!

I hate the Regent Street Hamley's. It's packed, and there are always people throwing things at you and trying to smile at you. >
But today I went to Foyle's on Charing Cross Road. Foyle's is lovely.

Greenleave · 03/07/2016 19:53

Thanks all!

Me too, I have to try my best to be cool so I could follow them up for nearly 3 hours. To me there are only people, you cant even stand properly as its so overcrowded. The girls never seem to notice, they love being lost in there. We are nearer to the smaller one in Westfield however someone only wants THAT Hamleys. Never mind, I only have to do that trip every few months or so

LooseAtTheSeams · 03/07/2016 20:00

Well done MiniGreen what a triumph! And Flowers for Green although if you've been to Hamley's today, I think you need Wine! She's been a real Star with the theory as well to contend with.
The cuddlies are lovely, by the way and Drummersmum that is certainly an unusual one! Smile

ealingwestmum · 03/07/2016 22:06

What a lovely day to have been out in London (first time I'd felt good in a week, no surprises why). Day spent in Covent Garden/Soho, ending here, for those that are down this way

Not as crazy as Hamley's but still, DD was like a kid in a sweetshop.

Lots of lovely summer music bought, mix of classical with the obligatory pop for piano/vocals...and a hefty bill to suit. Ouch. Weird moment when an overseas shopper asked DD to play the different yamaha pianos so she could hear each one...she politely obliged. My husband actually whispered under his breath oh my god, she really can play the piano.

A great light bulb moment for him...and a feeling of momentary vindication for me for my occasional tiger label Grin

Ealing I know that shop! We spent a while there on DS2's birthday! bet you're feeling very proud of DD!

Greenleave · 04/07/2016 07:07

Ealing, feeling proud and good isnt it especially for piano its lonelier compare to Orchestra instruments!

NeverEverAnythingEver · 04/07/2016 08:27

Which shop is that ealing? I went to about 5 piano shops when shopping for my piano but I think I missed that one!

ealingwestmum · 04/07/2016 08:52

It's 152-160 Wardour Street, Soho! Good range of music and they order in FOC and send to you if not in stock.

I don't know about the quality of digital pianos...we have a cheapy acoustic but was good to hear them!
