Welcome, everyone. I can't believe we need a new thread already, but I'm delighted that they now seem so popular!

I'm Waffle, I'm a music teacher and I have two daughters - Goo (10) who plays the recorder, flute, piccolo (a bit) and started the piano a month ago, and Rara (8) who isn't as musically inclined but plays the cello and recorder. She is plodding (very) slowly towards Grade 3 on both.

We're going on holiday this weekend, so will have to have a good read when I get back. For now, I'll wind the thread up and let it do its stuff. Grin

Great Prada!
BTW I actually love a good, honest, heartfelt, well earned boast Grin!

Pradaqueen · 21/06/2016 18:15

Thanks Green and Ealing. Must confess I was a bit tearful when I got the feedback from the admissions tutor and music director. Let's just say at school she's not a 'chosen one' so hearing someone else confirming what we believe as parents was lovely! Why teachers love the kids who are all sweetness and light in the classroom and out and out sly/nasty in the playground is a whole other thread!!

Prada if it makes you feel any better DD is not the chosen one at school either. In fact due to her being shy, quiet and obedient (God forbid to speak without being asked to do so) I think she is lost between all the confident DCs who literally ask for attention from the teacher.

When she was in year 1 I actually wondered at one parents evening if the teacher knew my DD. We discussed private school for her for a while but then decided against as we thought life is about learning to not be intimidated by overly confident people.

She is a completely different person at home, well spoken, funny, engaging and confident. It is just school that turned her into a bit of an introvert because she really has some strong characters in her class.

Music is for doing her what I hoped for, she has a teacher that believes in her with all her heart, she thinks she's her best student and tells her so, she sometimes texts me with new ideas for her musical development and I can see DD being so at ease with her.

I don't know why I wrote all this, maybe just to offload my constant worries. Smile

*doing for her (typing on my phone sorry)

I actually think this is brilliant: www.mumsnet.com/life-and-style/the-mumsnet-gcse-exam?hp_carousel1

I've read almost the entire thread drummersmum and decided they must all know my DS. Grin

Brilliant!

Drummer Grin I have three of these plus miniprada (who hasn't got to the Kevin and Perry stage...yet)

Fleur I could've written your post word for word. It's no different in an independent school and has everything to do with parenting IMO. Miniprada is not shy though and interestingly enough in another open day scenario she did last week she was quite extrovert which was lovely to see. There is something to be said though for being able to keep your head down and fit in, so I shouldn't worry too much!

NeverEverAnythingEver · 21/06/2016 19:12

I'm going to flaunt the no-music-after-7 rule and go and play the piano before I have a nervous breakdown...

Pradaqueen · 21/06/2016 19:14

Never.., I find this Wine helps. A lot.

NewLife4Me · 21/06/2016 19:21

Prada

Well done to your dd, seems like her teacher stands no messing.
Of course it takes regular meaningful practice.
Some people believe they can buy ability.
It reminds me of the teacher parent music clips that are so funny.
Have you seen them, they make me howl.
This one in particular.

NeverEverAnythingEver · 21/06/2016 19:33

Prada True, and it's quieter. Grin Usually.

QueenofQuirkiness · 21/06/2016 19:38

Oh dear - DD (14) burst into tears in her G5 oboe exam today and was so inconsolable she couldn't take the exam Sad luckily the examiner comes in to her school and she is allowed a second chance to redo the exam tomorrow, please wish her luck

onlymusic · 21/06/2016 19:39

Pradaqueen this is great, congratulations! Flowers
(but didn't you know she had perfect pitch??)

onlymusic · 21/06/2016 19:43

Fleurdelise sorry, I don't remember all details, did you consider Saturday JD? Sounds like your dd may enjoy the environment of like minded musical kids?

onlymusic · 21/06/2016 19:49

QueenofQuirkiness, hope it will go fine second time!
I saw a child who could not finish his piece during music festival and a girl who could not cope with her nerves during school concert and it is so upsetting to watch these children, one can almost feel what they feel.... and it is not music or performance but just nerves....

Fleurdelise · 21/06/2016 20:56

Prada I say she is shy for want of a better word but it is weird because she is only shy at school, she is confident and outgoing in another environment.

She does a dance class and she is the youngest with kids ranging from 10 to 15 yo, she's 8, and she talks to them, laughs, jokes, being her normal self.

onlymusic didn't look into it yet, I will as of September.

Fleurdelise · 21/06/2016 20:57

Queen I hope all goes well tomorrow, fingers crossed for your DD and please come and tell us how it went!

Pradaqueen · 21/06/2016 21:01

Flowers Queen for your DD and good luck tomorrow.

Only...no I didn't know re: perfect kids. I did (was made to do) music as a child and really hated it. Wanted to play serious tennis with my time Grin so vowed my kids would be very sporty. That hasn't happened so....I really didn't understand that not all kids can identify correctly what note was being played in another room, I thought it was normal Grin

Pradaqueen · 21/06/2016 21:02

Fleur. Exactly. We may have exactly the same kids!!

drummersmum · 21/06/2016 21:10

newlife Grin

Pradaqueen · 21/06/2016 21:14

Newlife I concur with Drummersmum Grin

SuspendedinGaffa · 21/06/2016 21:27

Yay Prada! Glad it was such a good experience and outcome for your DD.

Queen more lucky vibes from here for your DD tomorrow. Fingers crossed it will go so much better than today's attempt.

NewLife Grin - loved it!

Green going back a few pages, but I think your DD is in for her piano exam tomorrow? Good luck if so!

Howabout Fingers crossed for a good result.

exampanic · 21/06/2016 21:38

Drummersmum link, had read it already but still equally funny reading again. However don't think my 2 older ones will see the funny side at all...
