Hmmm, my bonfire night craft ideas are not going well in the hands of my two girls. May have to have a re-think & do something different.

I'd do biscuit decorating or edible sparklers but several parents haven't filled in the contact info sheets so I don't know if their girls have allergies & don't want to risk it. Suppose I could email over the week off & take it from there

RueDeWakening · 24/10/2015 18:25

We did painting for fireworks last year - take a straw, cut up it part way, splay out the ends and use it as a stamp to create the fireworks, add glitter glue and black paper or card and you're away Grin

lucysmam · 24/10/2015 18:41

I really dislike paint! Really really really dislike it!

But there is paint and there are straws and tabards and black card and a shit tonne of glitter in the cupboard.

You may be onto a winner Rue Confused

Any ideas for Halloween games and activities for older girls? 12+? We are doing apple bobbing and doughnut on string... I seem to have run the same hallowe'en party for about six years though...

AlbusPercival · 25/10/2015 10:09

Do covered boxes and they have to guess what is in them, cooked spaghetti for witches hair etc

Groovee · 25/10/2015 15:54

My daughter has done the training for peer educator. She's so excited to get started X

fastdaytears · 25/10/2015 16:04

That's awesome Groovee. We've been waiting for a peer educator session for ever!

rivierliedje · 25/10/2015 16:47

Oh I wonder if she was at the same training as me Groovee, I just did mine as well.

lucysmam · 25/10/2015 17:00

Eek, I think I've just volunteered myself to run a joint Christmas party for my Rainbows and the Brownies!

I've been loosely planning next half term & emailed Brown Owl to ask about the possibility.

Best get my thinking cap on for some games to play with them all!

Groovee · 25/10/2015 17:28

She was at Bonaly.

Lucysmam, we find the traditional party games go well. Musical statues, musical bumps, musical chairs, pass the parcel etc.

OP posts:
lucysmam · 25/10/2015 18:14

Thanks Groovee.

We had a few stroppy Rainbows at our pirate party before the Summer hols when we played traditional games.

I might ask Brown Owl to 'take charge' of some of it, they all listen to her!

Groovee · 25/10/2015 19:42

I have a brownie who only ever wants to play jungle on fire and we try to have a game which relates to our theme. So one night she announced she doesn't like my game! I gave her the speech about how in life we do not always get what want etc and she responds with "but why can we play jungle on fire?" To which I snapped because I said so.

Couple of weeks later mum thanks me for my "because I said so" line because mum had started using it after brownie moaned and said it has taken me 6 years to get her to accept that life isn't always about her.Blush

Albus, I've challenged them all to bring a box or bag of body parts... Grin

lucysmam · 25/10/2015 20:20

"Because I said so" works well on my own two - maybe I ought to try it with the Rainbows too.

AlbusPercival · 26/10/2015 09:02

Sounds fun Mad!

drspouse · 26/10/2015 21:45

Checking in because I've been on the Brownie Mum Very Rude To Unit Helper thread and thought I should come over here more often, like, ever.

I'm now a Guide leader having rotated through Brownies and Rainbows, not aiming to collect the full set though, I'm scared enough of my two twelve year olds in Guides turning into teenagers (we do actually have one 13 year old but she has learning disabilities so presents as alternately 3, 7, or a very sensible 42 who told us not to leave our irons on, at the fire station on our visit).

Today I've been trying to track down a stationery order that went missing, and putting off replying to a stroppy email from someone in District that doesn't seem to have been keeping their unit leadership team up to date meaning that as District volunteer coordinator funnily enough I have no idea who's on their leadership team (other leaders, who'd have them? oh yeah, me).

Also if anyone is interested in the direct debit system Gocardless for collecting payments from parents, it is normally a 1% fee but do message me for a referral code which should get you loads of credit.

Groovee · 26/10/2015 22:16

Welcome Drspouse x

Uff, thought I was all sorted, dbs & references in order...turns out that one of my references has not replied to the email that has been sent to her a number of times by our DC .

Good job there are other folks I can ask & can sort it tomorrw but why not bloomin tell me she didn't want to do it any more Confused. I thought it was all done months ago.

In other (better) news; our DC has been in touch with the lady who was interested in joining me taking over the rainbows & she's going to join us from next week Grin

drspouse · 26/10/2015 22:31

lucysmam they may not have got it. I'm volunteer coordinator for our District and do these checks and sometimes the email never turns up. We do them by post if it doesn't work.

Have you emailed the referee to check she got the email?

lucysmam · 26/10/2015 22:55

I only got the email from the DC this evening so will give her a ring in the morning now. Maybe doing it by post would be a better idea - I'll check with her tomorrow.

madwomanbackintheattic · 27/10/2015 14:03

Well, Hallowe'en party done. Grin Everyone carved a pumpkin, roasted the seeds, we played 'guess the body parts', made spiders out of pipe cleaners and raced them the length of the hall (blowing with a straw), played wink murder, and ate everyone's treats. We lit all the pumpkins outside at collection. Ran out of time for apple bobbing but they all wanted to do it, so I left it set up and annoyed all the parents as the girls all decided they had to bob for an apple on their way out of the door... enrollment in two weeks, I had better get my order in!!
I lost my new guider. She didn't make it to one single meeting. I am a little bit irritated as I spent hours sorting everything out, meeting up, going over unit plans, and she was super keen. I think she's just in a bad place personally, so I don't blame her, but it's v frustrating. I was hoping I could reduce my commitment to this group as I am woefully neglecting the other one. Sigh.
I'm officially closing two units in the district this week as well. Sad it's just normal cyclical stuff I think, but no guiders want to take them on and push through it. Hey ho.

lucysmam · 27/10/2015 14:14

Party sounds fab mad! I half wish we were allowed to do Halloween but never mind, making up for it with my own girls.

I sorted a new reference this morning - the other one didn't answer the phone so I left it. Am hoping that she'll reply as soon as the email comes through.

Just wondering - do you do poppy/Remembrance crafts with your girls? We join another church for their parade on Remembrance Sunday, I'm not sure whether to do something else related or not.

Groovee · 27/10/2015 17:27

We did these with Milk bottle lids

I emailes our LiC my vague plans for next half term...got a reply saying - we do this, we don't do that, we do the other and try to fit ABC in as well. But do what I want Confused

I majorly feel like I'm treading on toes now Sad
