We bought a digital Yamaha piano which has served us really well, but now my daughter has shown she will def carry on with piano we want to invest in an upright model. My DD is G3. Where do we start? Budget up to 2K. Any advice on makers/models gladly received. Would you go for second hand?

Gelatonous

Only just seen your post, your tunner is correct they where orginally a very good piano that went down when construction was moved

The problem is to write a full list and explanation of every piano would probably take me days and I would still miss things,

My list was meant as a general guide and I hope I have not caused offense.

The first and most important thing about a piano is how the pianist relates to it and feels about it, the thoughts of a random person on the internet (me) are irrelevant as I am not playing it. :)

I can only offer a bit of a heads up, for the less experienced about POSSIBLE problem brands.

HT Makes sense?

No offence taken & I completely see the problems with noting all the finer details about each. Especially tough as lots of piano brands seem to have been taken over.

Challen is not Korean, but actually British make, the only British make who officially supplied BBC up to 1971, I believe bought by Yamaha in recent years, so non existent as Challen, sadly.
Good sturdy piano with a wonderful sound and nice not too hard action, so could be ideal as a first acoustic piano.

Acoustics are a great option if you can afford one and have the space. Piano exams, festivals and performances are always on an acoustic piano, most likely a grand piano, so getting used to the feel of an acoustic is advantageous.

Yamaha U1s are within the 2k budget and are very good. Even better if you can get a U3. Have fun with it. A decent piano will last a lifetime and more!
