Can someone encourage me to continue running?

I've started running every day on the running machine for 30 minutes. Have done two weeks so far.

Today was a real mental block. I got through it and completed my half hour, but need some positive spins on it. What can I hope to achieve for myself or see if I continue?

Thanks. I really want to keep doing it...

Have a change and take it outside?

Running on roads is a totally different experience to running on a treadmill. You will feel different afterwards and can log your distance on "track my run".

Oh I wish I could. I have DS2 at home with me 24/7. DS1 is in Kindergarten. The only chance I get to run is when DS2 is asleep at lunchtime.

Come September I'll be able to run outside as he'll be in Kindergarten too!

  1. You've done brilliantly to get through two weeks - well done!
  1. Can I be honest? I'd be bored rigid doing what you're doing. As Alouiseg suggests, can you get outside? If not, why mix it up a bit in terms of speed/gradient/time - do some interval training.
  1. You need to have a day off every now and then - you'll run better if you give your body recovery time.
  1. Can you set yourself a goal? Is there a specific race you want to aim for?

Good luck!

X-posted sorry! Another thought is to have a really good music mix on - I always find it helps to get me through the tough bits.

I've been rocking out with my ipod, and the run I do is 30 minutes with variation (jumping speeds up and down).

Maybe it's more about me switching off my mind, and stop thinking about me running. I need to zone out.

Why not try a training programme - if yr already managing running for 30 mins then perhaps a 10k thing? It will give you a goal to work to, which is invaluable to motivation. Also, you must let your body have a day off. All the reading I've been doing about running, even seasoned professional runners start getting injuries when they push themselves too hard and don't let their bodies have a recovery day. At least 2 a week, but 3 is ideal. Don't train harder, train smarter!

can you get out on a bike with a toddler seat or trailer? thats what iv just done iv got a seat for ds 20 months and a trailer for dd 4 (its a double one so they can both get in if the weather's not great.) DH and i have ditched the car completely. i still run most nights but if i dont i know iv done a good bit of training already. And boy does it give a lovely brake from fueding kids they love it they sleep better eat better and i feel good to and its great fun. It might not be what your after but i just thought i'd share

I second what the others say. Find a training plan which mixes up shorter runs, intervals. Have days off (at least two). Get some good music to run to. Maybe promise yourself a reward when you've done five more runs such as a new piece of running gear.

do you live with anyone? if so, how about going out on your own . it makes a big difference to have some scenery to look at.

dont forget to give yourself a day off otherwise your legs dont get chance to recover and you will tire more quickly..
