Stitch in side when running - total novice - anyone got any friendly advice?

Hello

I'm going to start this plea for advice by saying I am not a runner - I however do do spin classes, walks and toning classes, but since my sister signed us up for the Race For Life I may as well embrace the challenge and go for it.

Now, I started walk/run for 2 mins each about one month ago, and never really progressed from there as I keep getting a stitch in my side when running.

Have just been out this morning & 15 minutes into my 4 miles I was doubled over with pain in my side.

What am I doing wrong? I started the run at 9am, I had breakfast at 7.50am (it was pineapple, grapes & a pint of water) Do you think it may be what I ate? This happens every time & I'm starting to get annoyed, my sister runs marathons & mountain races etc & I know she thinks I am making it up so I won't have to run as fast as she is!

Any advice greatly received & any plans will be put into action

TIA

Ah, meant to say, I am warming up with stretches, marching on spot etc.

No-one?

I get that it's probably a boring question for a lot of you.....

Advice here

Used to happen to me. Found changing my breathing and stride helped. There's an interesting and rather complex physiological reason why. It works though.

don't know if this would help a stitch but cuch to 5k is brilliant for novice runners!

Thanks SaintGeoff.

Have had a read, I haven't got into my breathing rhythm just yet so will watch what I'm doing next time.

Also like the core stability idea - my sister has just trained to be able to teach core strenghning classes so will sign up!!

Thanks Navy - it's something similar to Couch to 5K I'm following at the minute. Walk 2, run 2 for 20 min 3 days a week. Walk 2 run 3 for 3 days next week etc...

Man it's difficult to run for 2 mins when you haven't really timed yourself before!!

Make sure you are remembering to breathe regularly and evenly. But also all that acidic fruit plus large volume of water sounds too much only an hour before running. If you're starving when you wake up I'd have a banana plus maybe a third pint water and then drink plenty when you get back and it won't be jiggling up and down in your tummy!
