Running and knackered knee

I've been doing some running following the Cool Runnings couch potato to 5km plan and am on wk 3 - trying to get to be able to run for the Macmillan thing at end of March.

Anyway, went running last week and my knee hurt a little bit, I picked DD up today and felt my knee sort of give. DH has had a prod round and reckons its the inside knee ligament. I have it strapped up at the moment and am treating with ice. Starting to feel a bit better.

Does anyone have any idea how long I should leave it after it feels okayish before I should start running again? I'm enjoying it so don't want to lose momentum and enthusiasm etc.

I think you should see a sports physio of some form to get it looked at and some advice. Maybe changing your running shoes may help or buying some special running insoles, as if you're landing more on one side of the foot when running, this may have contributed to the knee etc.

I don't think you should start running until you've got some professional advice, as you may make it worse.

Thanks. It is a bit better today but is looking a bit swollen so will try and get some physio sorted.

Have you been running on the road/pavements? And do you do lots of warming up first? I have crappy knees and can only run on grass after massive amounts of warming up if I don't want them to hurt

Yep. Mostly pavements and only a bit of stretching so will definitely need to do more of that. I've been running with the pushchair (off road type) so will need to give that a go on grass.
