Please

I would like to join one, once I get a job but I am not sure if it will still be too pricey.

So, can you give me a rough idea ?

The gyms are so expensive when you get anything beyond 'grunt and pump' (which you can get for about £30/month).

The council gyms are better value, but even with that we weren't going enough (you need to go twice a week to get value), so we spent £700 on a treadmill at home. I can go off and do a 5km run at midnight if I so desire, and you don't need to do any silliness like driving to the gym, assemble clothes for everything, make sure you're there during the (limited or expensive, or both) childcare hours.

I think the treadmill is fully ammortised now, given that we haven't paid gym membership for a year.

Oh we did buy some bicycles (outside ones) too.

I sppend a large part of the day on my own - so going to the gym gives me company and chat, that I like in my break from work. I enjoy the classes where I have meet people and made friends.

I can't get that in the converted garage or home gym.

There are a lot of people with dust on their home gyms and dust on their membership cards for gyms

£126 a month, joint membership for me and DP (and that's corporate rate). Esporta in Gloucester. SIL has got a family membership for which she can have 3 children, she only has 2 kids so has put dd on her membership. This works out well because dd can come with us and exercise, go to classes, use the pool etc.

Is worth it because we use it a lot, me generally 4 times a week. Go to classes, gym and the pool (outside and inside) is very good. Plus as it is more expensive than the other gyms in teh area it is less busy than the other gyms. Used to go to Fintness First and Virgin, both of those used to get very busy and were not as enjoyable to go to.

of Champneys.

I pay £35 a month. It's open 6.00am - 10.00 pm Monday to Friday and 8.00 10.00 sat sunday.
For that there is a really good gym with loads of equipment about 40 classes a week, swimming, steam room. They have a nice lounge area and you can also use any of their gyms in the country.

The council that I work for although I am not a resident alllows me free swimming, gym at some of it's places, free exerises classes and use of athletics track. This is availabe to the residents, students and people who work in the town , so you can commute from 25 miles away and get free gym and swimming.

158EUR for me and DH but it's a very nice gym with all classes included, 2 swimming pools with a hydrotherapy pool, sauna, steam room etc.

Sidge · 18/01/2010 12:58

£24 per month for basic independent gym. No pool but has steam room and classes are included.

Has everything I need ie CV equipment, fixed and free weights, floor area, balls, etc.

£150 a month for family membership. You can get cheaper deals but then you have restricted access such as only Mon-Fri 10am-4pm.

Our membership entitles us to use the lovely pool, huge modern gym and entry to any of the classes at any time we choose. The children can use the pool but we have to pay extra for their swimming class. Although the cost of the lessons is £55 a term which is the same as the leisure centre, there are only 8 children per class and no waiting list.

DH and I use the pool and the gym. I go about 3 times a week and DH twice. In the nicer weather we take the Dds to the pool every weekend. It was great in the Summer hols we went every other day for a dip! Only downside is that there are no racket sports facilities!

I have a personal trainer who comes to my house 2 times a week so I dont have to find a creche for my son. She also made me a diet plan which is really working and I have no expensive gym membership. If you buy in bulk the sessions are quite cheap and you can workout with a friend also which brings the cost down. Its good motivation and lots of fun. My ones website is www.nowfitness.co.uk
