Anyone interested in sharing my boat (Mirror Dinghy) ?

Katymac · 16/01/2010 11:19

I'm in Norfolk (by the Broads) & I have a wooden Mirror Dinghy.

I would be interested in either sharing it with someone & splitting costs or maybe having it surveyed & then lending it to someone for it to be returned in the same condition in say 5 years

We love it but cannot sail it atm (DD finds it too hard & my back is very unforgiving) & would love to see it being sailed

My parents sail, and i do occasionally, the club they sail at has club owned boats that people had sold to them when they left, or that they had just left behind, is there a club near by that you could loan in out to?

Katymac · 16/01/2010 16:46

No the local clubs won't take wooden boats as club boats due to maintenance

oh ok well i hope you find someone soon who will help

bronze · 16/01/2010 18:02

Out of interest are you a member of a club?

leclerc · 16/01/2010 18:06

put a poster on the local club board? they normally have a 'for sale' or similar?

it sounds like a lovely idea for the right family.

we're nowhere near, unfortunately. i still remember selling our beautiful wooden enterprise. it was a while back and i wish i had kept one of the old sails with the sail no. on.

chocolaterabbit · 16/01/2010 18:11

Lovely idea but our DCs are a bit little for us to get back into sailing. Good luck with getting it used

Katymac · 16/01/2010 18:16

Yep - DD has a Topper

I think they'll be using a club boat til they use his....sorry
but I was wondering partly cos I'm nosy and its nice to hear of other kids at the club. I've not been so no we havent (except on INEBG ) but it sounds a really nice club from what DH has said

Katymac · 16/01/2010 18:32

Very nice club

Always feel welcome (but slightly out of my depth.....I don't really sail)

Maybe we can meet up - how old are yours - my DD is 12 & loves the club Oppie & her Topper

She often takes little ones out in the Oppie

Oh Kay you are too far away! I would so love to share it with you, or borrow it for a few years. It is the perfect dream boat. I whistfully dream of lapping along around the Mewstone down here in Devon, listening to the distant screams of children playing on the beach. And teaching my kids to sail on Hooe lake

lclerc one of the first boats I ever sailed in a race was an enterprise. An old man called Bob owned it, we sailed it on the Thames when i lived in London (Greenwich Yacht club) and he, like katy offered it to me as his arthritis was bad, on the condition i sailed it regularly, it was even at the club so did not need to store it. I was 16, and just found alcohol/my boyfriend, and made the wrong choice. That is probably my biggest regret out of it all. A fantastic opportunity, the biggest regret. it changed things.

I hope you find someone who loves it katy

Katymac · 17/01/2010 10:42

Never mind - hopefully someone will want to share with me

I have such happy memories of learning to sail with my Grandad in a Mirror Dinghy. I was in charge of the jib and he took the mainsail.

Hope you find someone to share with Katymac.

Katymac · 19/01/2010 18:39

It was me & my Dad in this Mirror - but realistically we can't sail it & I don't want it to rot away unused

If I lived near you I'd be up for this like a shot.

Katymac · 19/01/2010 20:39

Have you considered moving?

I learned to sail in a Mirror - it was lovely. I don't live anywhere near you though - it's probably just as well since I have no time/money to spare!

Katymac · 20/01/2010 19:36

I agree....a great experience
