Teaching kids to ski - anyone used a ski tip connector?

Like this or an Edgie Wedgie.

Also any tips for teaching kids would be appreciated. Dh is a fantastic skier, but I am just a beginner and because we are teaching three kids at the same time I need to be able to help teach

Things that are obvious to dh might not be obvious to me and he doesn't always realise that I won't automatically know these hints and tips IYSWIM

We tried with DS1 when he was nearly 5, on his first skiing trip. Good and bad: good because he was better able to control his skis with it than without it; bad because he would not ski without it and consequently did not progress. Also the ski school made him take it off and as a result he refused to go. A mama made of stronger stuff than I am would no doubt have sent him anyway. As it was he spent most of the week in the kids club having a lovely time, popping out to play in the snow with me and my parents. The next year I "forgot" the ski tip connector, he went into ski kindergarten and had a lovely time and could bomb down the slope for the race at the end of the week.

So my tip is to stick them in ski school!

You do not say how old your DCs are. I think that 4 is the very very youngest you should try. There was a plucky little 4 year old in DS1's ski school class last year, made to go to keep up with her sisters, Mama and Papa both made of stronger stuff than I, and it has to be said that it was tougher for her than all the 5 and 6 year olds she was with. Leg muscles just aren't strong enough for some little children. My second tip would therefore be to make sure your children are old enough to learn to ski.

DS2 is coming this year and the ski tip connector is not.

After this write up I can see that I might have put you off. If not, and you are still interested, CAT me and I will post ours to you!

Thanks for your reply. What a kind offer - I will CAT you

I have read similar stories to yours but dh still says to give it a try. Unfortunately ski school is too expensive, but when we go on a ski holiday we probably will put the kids in.

Kids are 10, 8 and 3.5. It is for the 3 year old we would like to try the connector. He is a very physical 3 year old and has been riding a bike with no stabilisers since he was two and can swim by himself.

We have been skiing a couple of times and he can manage to zoom straight down the small nursery slopes but now we need to get him to do his pizza/snowplough.

We are going skiing today (lucky to live near a couple of ski resorts!) and will be giving him a try doing pizza. Even if he does manage it I would still appreciate the connector because he has a friend who might need it too.

Well we went skiing yesterday and ds prefers not to pizza. He just wants to go fast straight down

Hopefully the connector will persuade him.

Can't find your email address, but just wanted to give you another big thank you.

Ds2 is doing pizza really nicely now and can control his speed and is beginning to turn
