Calling all fitness fanatics...rowing machine advice

What type/make/style of rowing machine should we buy?

We are looking at spending around £150-200 max, and want it to take up as little room as possible but be as effective as possible in getting DH and I fit (DH more than me tbh).

Hoping to buy something in a sale and have no clue!

Hi, Pav and happy new year.

I'll see what I can find for you.

BRB

I think cybex/concept are considered the best and what you'd find in gyms but vv pricy new.

Ivykaty44 · 01/01/2010 13:10

this one

you can also rent one which might be a good idea..

PavlovtheCat · 01/01/2010 13:11

this one in lostwithiel

new year cancelled for us. DS2 ill for two nights before so no sleep and then going to work, finally got a cold myself. spent the evening sipping lemsip.
rubbish.

have had a temporary namechange during the ford product test to save any hassle.

PavlovtheCat · 01/01/2010 13:21

oh you did the ford test? cool! how long do you have it for?

sorry your new year was so crap , ours was quiet, apart from Reuben feeding constantly, we had a couple of friends around and watched Hootenany on tele! sad eh?!

yeah, the car is great. got it for another couple of weeks.
we had to cancel all the people we'd invited round. somehow managed to stay up past midnight but was all a bit of a non-event. ah well.

wrt the rowing machine. i think the better ones are very expensive but also the sturdiness means they are difficult to store. i don't have any experience of the cheapers one's though, hopefully somebody else has some experience.

they are a great workout though. even 10 minutes can burn alot of calories. and it's a whole body workout too which is good if you're short for time.

PavlovtheCat · 01/01/2010 14:46

I am thinking, seeing that one in lostwithiel, if we can get a cheap easy to store one for £15 or so, we might do that, see if we actually use it and if we do, then get a better one, by which time we will have some idea what we want from it, and what we need to be looking for...

..unless we get a good deal on a cyber whatever one!!!

Sounds like a good plan.

PavlovtheCat · 01/01/2010 22:22

what about this? good? bad? ok for the money? Don't necessarily need flash

Looks alright.

There are some reviews on there.

One criticism that it is too short.

PavlovtheCat · 01/01/2010 22:41

ah, too short might not be a problem, as both DH and are are shorties! I shall go look though see what the reviews say...alright is ok i think, as we are not fitness buffs, once we get into it, if we do indeed do so, then we can look at upgrading in the future. We just want to start to get fit, in particular DH who wants to shed some pounds. Me, I just want to get healthier, don't need to shed baby weight, as trying hard not to actually lose any while BFing despite appetite coming back 10-fold!
