What's a good make? What should I be looking for? This will be his main present, so I want to get him something really good.

Thanks for tips.

Does he mean legging type things? My DH has some Adidas ones, they are surprisingly thick (he only wears them in winter) and were quite expensive. He uses them a lot.

Not sure what you need to know tbh, you probably get what you pay for as with most sports kit, so go to a good, big sports shop where they have lots of brands and ask for a recommendation (and keep the receipt!).

Ok. Just thought there might be something brilliant I didn't know about - yes I suppose he does mean tight ones.

Thanks.

i got mine at aldi, they are fab

potatofactory · 10/12/2009 13:33

Brill, thanks! We have one of those nearby - will check out forthwith.

while i also buy running gear at aldi i wouldn't really want one pair of tights from aldi as my 'main present' (they're about £12 and while perfectly ok they not as breathable or durable or fit as well as more expensive ones)

the best bet if you want to get him something good is to go to a specialist running shop (NOT a general sports shop) - most towns have a specialist shop.

if you're willing to post your nearest shopping town i'll find you a shop to go to.

fluffles · 10/12/2009 13:40

sorry, i just realised that post was horribly insensitive. Of course it's absolutely fine if you only have £12 or so for his main christmas present.

sorry sorry

TheGoatofChristmasPast · 10/12/2009 14:31

honestly the aldi ones are fine. i run 3 or 4 times a week adn they fit really well and are breathable and appear to be durable. i wouldn't waste money on branded ones tbh. you could get him some nice tops or a high vis jacket as well.

Thanks both of you! I live in Bristol - I'm sure we must have a specialist shop - I'll do a search. I'll check out both!

skins - they are not cheap but are fab, better than anything else

MoshiMoshi · 13/12/2009 07:13

Also look at compression rights eg 2xU do good ones as an option. These use technology which is designed to help with combating muscle fatigue and are meant to be helpful in training or especially post-training. They are quite a lot more expensive than regular running tights but would classify as a very special main gift!

MoshiMoshi · 13/12/2009 07:14

gahhhh! Should read "compression tights"!

Ivykaty44 · 13/12/2009 15:27

here take a look at how they work

As you are in Bristol, I would recommend Easy Runner. They're on St Michael's Hill. Avoid on a Saturday though as they get really busy - tiny shop and they have 15 Saturday staff to fit shoes!
