Was running pre pregnancy and really keen to get back to it (surprised myself by how keen). Anyone know how long you should leave it post c-sec ? Am 8 weeks post c-sec a t the mo.

Also, any advice on running with buggy ? Have a suitable buggy but is it ok to run with a baby this young ?

3 months i was told til i could exercise again. Left it this long and have no problems after, both times!

Just did a 10k race yesterday in a PB!

Thasnks - had been thinking 3 months. Will maybe step up the walking in the meantime.

Well done on your 10K

I had just got up to just over 10k when I stopped. Want to aim for the marathon in either 2011 or 2012 (2012 more likely as dd2 will start nursery sept 2011 so more time to train !!)

Hi Wheelybug .

I think there's a fair bit of info on the runners world website about running after childbirth. Logically I'd say probably build up slowly with walk/runs. It was an elective section wasn't it? If so then you don't need to worry so much about the running knackering the pelvic floor too much.

Good luck!

Thanks Liath - yes elective c-sec (officially an emergency but it wasn't !) so pelvic floor should be basically ok I think.

I was going to start the couch to 5K programme again so this starts very gently and builds up so guess I'd know if it was causing me problems.

Will wait till 12 weeks though.

I was told (by physio at hospital) not to run for 6 months after a c-section.

I went back to gym 2 months after 2nd c-section and tried running after about 4 months, then got a bit too cocky and ran 5k and it made my scar prickle/hurt, so decided the physio was right all along!

As well as your pelvic floor, try and strengthen your core (especially transverse abdominals) before doing a lot of running.

My last sentence there sounds very bossy, sorry, I wasn't meaning to be!

I did it 4 weeks with DS1 and 8 weeks with DS2, no probs!
