Decided to go for it. Have done a 5k a few years ago, but not much since them, and I did walk a fair bit of it, I didnt train AT ALL for it, I only did it because I worked in tesco at the time and signing up made our manager love us.

Determined to make a proper go of this one, went jogging today after work and feel good, am doing the walk-jog-walk-jog thing. I walk to and from work every day, have a fairly active job and go to the gym/swimming every so often.

Not under any illusions that I will be a fab runner by September but to make a reasonable attempt at jogging it will do me for this year.

Join a running club - best thing I every did.

Costs me the grand total of £10 a year and I get to run with an interesting bunch of people, from all walks of life, up to 4 times a week, plus loads of great advice and support.

Ours also has walking and run-walk groups for those just starting out.

You've got more than enough time to train for a 10K, there is a coach potato to 5K thread in this topic if you want to start for the very beginning and then 5-10K progammes as well.

Check out the 8K in Windsor organised by running4women (google them!) It is 26th Sept this year. A great race.

Hi Giraffe

Joining a running club is a great idea. Contact a few as some may be more serious than others. The one I belong to has various speed of runners, and is fairly relaxed about when you turn up. You just run to your own standard, and group.

When I started, I planned a short circular route, and then when I could manage that I extended it further. If you measure it in the car you can get an idea of how far you are going and how much further you need to go.

If you haven't already, invest in some proper running trainers from a running shop. Your feet will thank you. Good luck
