Bath half marathon - anyone do it yesterday?

Hi was wondering if anyone else did the bath half yesterday? I did, and god it was gruelling! Wonderful spring sunshine so good for spectators, but having done all my training in the cold, cloud and frost, I really struggled.

Would love to hear what anyone else's experience was like!

Dh did it too, he said pretty much the same. Also felt it had been wrongly billed as a flat course...

But the dc had a lovely time playing in Victoria Park.

Yeah isn't it a great play area there? I used to spend ages sitting there with a coffee while the kids mucked about on all the fantastic equipment.

I must say as I sweated past it for the second time yesterday I wished I was with the kids.

re the flat course, I'm from Bath originally but now live in East Anglia, so, yeah, it was obviously a Westo definition of flat..

Anyway, hope your DH enjoyed it and got a good time!

We are from down west as well (tho living in London now) so yes, expectations of flatness are relative. But it's very dependent on how they set out the course -- dh did the Loch Ness marathon in Oct and said it was very flat, cos all the running was along the contours.

Are you going to do any more? Dh and cousins usually do the Torbay half in the summer, which is fun but also not flat. They do a good kids Fun Run round Paignton Green, which my 4yo reckoned she'd 'winned' despite being carried part of the way! Dh reckons he may do the Bristol half as well.

I will now only countenance driving him to runs with decent locations, following hideous memories of sitting in a car in the carpark at Silverstone with three dc for four hours while it sleeted and a freezing wind shook the car.

Oh I agree with you about good locations.. I can only go to races on weekends when my kids stay with their dad, or if I'm with relatives who can look after them. I have done a couple of 10ks with fun runs that start after the main race, and left the kids (10 and 12) to do their race and then wait for me to finish! big incentive to run faster, but I couldn't do it with anything longer than 10k, I get too worried that something might happen to them while I'm slogging round the course.

My son did the fun run yesterday but for some reason his name hasn't appeared on the results list

I'm alread wondering whether to try another half in the autumn or contemplate a marathon

Anyway it was a great day out, and I'm glad you and yours had fun, frogs!
