Hi
Starting a new thread for those who are trying to achieve a Parkrun sub 30โ€ฆand newbies to parkrunโ€ฆ.and also experienced! Basically all! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Im trying to get a sub 30. Iโ€™ve been up early and done the parkrun route before the kids get up!
Time was 31โ€™32โ€
I felt like I was wearing too many tops and was getting hot ๐Ÿฅต
But I didnโ€™t stop and ran the whole way.
anyway here we are!
im hoping to beat that on Saturday.

over to youโ€ฆ.

Wow some fast times here! Iโ€™m practicing on Wednesday on the same parkrun route. Iโ€™m just hoping for a 31 at least ๐Ÿคช

Sub 30 is my PR goal too. Closest I've got is just under 31 minutes, but mostly 32 mins ish.

I've been in a repeated cycle of pushing myself to go either a teeny tiny bit faster or further and then injuring myself which then takes months to fix. So frustrating! It seems the same for my friends too, so sadly, think this is what happens in your 50s.

Love the age ranking for PR as it makes me feel much better about my speed.

MyThreeWords · 22/06/2026 18:30

Wow, @miffedatsea a triathlon!! Many congratulations, that is massively impressive. I hope you are feeling like a goddess (albeit probably an achy one).

Bb14 · 23/06/2026 21:30

This is also my goal! Iโ€™m 45 and only started running in Feb due to spinal surgery. My first park run was 33 mins down to 31 by May - So I decided to train to be faster - this was my plan
1x intervals run 400m run (5:45 pace) 90 second walk x6.
1x 5 k at 6.00 reduced to 5:55 per km over the weeks
and one long (7k) at a 6:45 pace. I did this for 5 weeks the yesterday did a 29:05 5k!! Next step Achieving this at Park Run.

Lemontreeinthecity · 24/06/2026 10:18

@Bb14i may have to follow some of your interval training!
i did a PR practice earlier this morning before the kids were awake and only managed 33โ€™20โ€.

im hoping Saturday Iโ€™m at least a minute faster ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

I felt like the 2k and 3k were the hardest I felt a bit tight in my bodyโ€ฆthe last 1k much easier and I felt like I could have gone on, even did a little sprint at the end!

maybe I need to work on my warm up. I literally park car, walk to the start in the park, with a bit of jogging and then bang straight off into itโ€ฆ

how is everyone feeling about Saturdays Parkruns? ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š
(trying to get myself ready for not getting a sub 30 ๐Ÿ˜‚)

Do t know where I am going but if it is still hot then it wonโ€™t be a fast one. Quite nice to not be committed this week and have the choice on Saturday morning.

NoCareNoFair · 25/06/2026 23:19

My current thinking is it's going to be way to hot for me to get anything like my PB this Saturday, let alone a sub 30! I'll probably just take it easy again and wait for a cooler Saturday morning!

I have started training for my 10k now and am so motivated that I even went out running before 7 this morning and nothing will normally get me up that early! I quite enjoyed it..!

parkrunEnthusiast · 27/06/2026 14:02

Nowhere near 30 today, far too hot. But pleased that I ran the whole thing despite lots of temptation to walk. Pancake flat and on tarmac but took me longer than my usual hilly route usually would!

NoCareNoFair · 27/06/2026 14:07

Exactly the same here. A very slow 35 minute parkrun, but my achievement is also that I didn't stop

Benvenuto · 27/06/2026 20:47

Too hot and too busy for a sub-30 run but I was on time (for the first time since posting here). Despite the heat, I had a great run!

NoCareNoFair · 03/07/2026 13:26

Not quite so hot by the looks of it tomorrow, although definitely on the wrong end of the chart if you are like me and prefer it to be sub 10 Deg!

I don't think I'll be getting a PB tomorrow, but I will aim for between 33 and 34 mins and to be faster than last week.

I have upped my running days this week and last week so hopefully building up the fitness for both the sub 30 Parkrun and a 10k!

JantoDec · 04/07/2026 12:08

Hi. Can I join please? Iโ€™ve done 15 parkruns, most of them this year and been chasing my 5k PB for a few weeks now after focusing on longer runs for my first half marathon at the end of May. Happy to say I did it this morning knocking 1 min 12 off. Just shows that some longer runs, interval training and strength training definitely helps with speed.

Hope everyone had a good park run this morning and enjoyed being out there moving no matter what the finish time. I always tell myself how lucky I am to be able to go out there and just run, even if itโ€™s the last thing I want to do sometimes!

NoCareNoFair · 05/07/2026 15:39

Well done @JantoDec! 1min 12 off a PB is massive!
I did ok yesterday, 33:30 which is ok considering it was still hot and it was in my top ten best.
Sadly I have to give PR a miss next week, but good luck to everyone else!

Thank you! Was really pleased, itโ€™s a flat course and it wasnโ€™t as hot as it has been lately. Well done on your time ๐Ÿ‘

I think lots of people do parkruns and either add on miles before/after or use the parkrun as the middle part of a longer run. Iโ€™ve done it at the end of extra miles so I still finish with everyone else and get my time.

If youโ€™re running all out to get your PB you need to really slow it down if you want to try 10k though. Your long runs should be much slower than your 5ks but they will definitely help you build your engine which in turn will make you faster over shorter distances.
My easy/long runs can be 2-3 minutes per mile slower than my 5ks.

You need to practice different speeds for differed distances. Are you using a training app? Nike Run Club is good at guided runs over different distances and is free. Runna is also good and what I used for my half marathon training but you have to pay.

JantoDec · 06/07/2026 14:26

Also having read through your earlier posts @Lemontreeinthecity, if Iโ€™m trying to run fast and aiming for a PB I listen to higher tempo music to spur me on, I save podcasts for longer, slower runs.

I also get very hot, very quickly so wear the minimum I can get away with. In this weather just a vest and shorts. Iโ€™d rather be a bit chilly at the start. Sometimes take a zip up top in cooler weather as itโ€™s easier to take off on the move and tie round my waist.

parkrunEnthusiast · 07/07/2026 07:07

I think I am going to sign up for a half marathon next May. Itโ€™s a bit terrifying but maybe the longer runs will help with my parkrun times.

i am going on holiday this week so missing the next two Saturday mornings.

JantoDec · 07/07/2026 07:25

@parkrunEnthusiast do it! Focusing on longer distances meant my 5k and parkrun times just naturally got faster without giving it any thought. I did do a 10k race first though before the half.
Now Iโ€™m focusing a bit more on increasing my pace itโ€™s not as much fun! Give me a longer slower run any day ๐Ÿ˜‚

Lemontreeinthecity · 10/07/2026 10:21

Who is ready for Parkrun tomorrow? Letโ€™s get a show of hands ๐Ÿ™Œ
