Struggling to “get back on the horse”

The last three weeks have been really hectic for me - my dad had major surgery, then it was my birthday, and one thing led to another and I’ve not been to the gym/running for three weeks now. I went for a short run last night to ease myself into it but I just don’t seem to be able to get back in the mindset of exercising everyday. What can I do????

The only thing that helps me is just to show up anyway, even when I don’t feel like it. Even if it’s just a mile or a couple of sets at the gym. Then one day I realise I’m back into it. I think if we chase always feeling motivated and in the right mind-set, this is where we can fall down. Just be consistent anyway.

Yeah I think I just need to go. My issue is I feel like my old PT will be judging me for not going!

But you aren’t exercising for anyone other than yourself…what your PT may or may not think is irrelevant. And if they’re an old PT, I doubt they’ve given it a 2nd thought. Any decent PT will know that fitness is a journey that isn’t always v linear and has peaks and troughs. Just go…honestly - it v really is that simple 😊

Think of it like an appointment. You wouldn’t just not turn up for the doctors or dentist. Plan it in and you have to make yourself disciplined to do it. You’ll be glad when you did!

Realistically I know he won’t care but I’m so in my head about it all!

Put it into your diary. And show up - a 20 minute run or 10 minutes weights is better than the sofa. Can you make getting to the gym part of the exercise? Walk there, or something like that?

My PT sessions are in my work calendar as "Training" - they enable me to stay super-productive in my work, and I just work later on my training days.

Yep I do this. I treat it as a non negotiable, I don’t enjoy going to Aldi or the dentist but I have to so I do.
once I’m actually exercising I always do enjoy it
