New to strength training and have been really enjoying Caroline Garvin Iron programme.

Already seeing an improvement in my lifting capacity (I started off very very light) - particularly in my leg strength. Is there a rule to how much to increase weight? As in, do you go up by 10% every certain number of weeks etc??

I up weights when I can do several lifts easily. How much by depends on what’s available at my gym so usually 5kg on barbells, 2kg on dumbbells or kettlebells.

you want the last few reps to be a struggle. If you finish an exercise but could have kept going, up the weights.

I’d just increase the weight when the current one starts feeling a bit too easy and you can finish all your reps with good form. No need to follow a strict timeline small increases and listening to your body tend to work best.

When I can do 15 reps fairly easily, I up the weight.

Like @EmpressaurusKitty I'd jump 5kg for barbell exercises and 1kg or 2kg on free weights.

Well done on your progress, OP.

I up my weights as soon as I can do 10 - 12 reps with ease. I then up it to a weight where I can only do 6-8.
