Hyrox…do you need to be superhuman?

Hi…I’m fancying the challenge of a Hyrox

i am 56, do lots of exercise, including weights so am reasonably fit, used to run quite a bit and can still do a 5k no problem. However I weigh 70 kg so don’t look like the people in Hyrox videos! In running, even marathons there are also normal (ie not super fit) people as well as the ‘proper’ runners at the front. Is Hyrox like this…do they just not make the cut?

Am I mad to think it is doable, with training of course?

Of course you don’t, lots of people can do hyrox as an amateur, I do. I have a friend who does it professionally, its really important you don’t compare yourself to the pros.

WeregoingtoIbiza · 15/05/2026 05:55

I’m definitely not super human but did a doubles early this year in a time of 1 hour 40 minutes and I’m only a couple of years younger than you.
I had been training for a good 12 months leading up to it. Find a gym that does simulations so you can have a go and see what you need to improve on first.
Good luck and enjoy it!

Thatfattrollop · 15/05/2026 07:40

Your post made me chuckle because I’m doing a competition this year that’s actually called superhuman games and I’m in no way superhuman 😅
All shapes and sizes do hyrox - I haven’t yet as I think I prefer bigger team comps (and definitely less running…), but never say never!

These women seem to be age 60+ and are deffo well under 70 kg.
Hyrox doesn't look like fun to me, too much shouting and being watched. Hope you find something you enjoy, OP.

You absolutely can! I am 51 and did my first relay and doubles this year. I would maybe suggest doing a doubles first.
The people you see on videos are not the norm There are many people like us taking part.
Concentrate on the running aspect, and maybe join a gym that specifies in the training. It's not easy but the sense of achievement is amazing. Enjoy and maybe see you in Birmingham!

CryingAtTheDiscotheque · 15/05/2026 08:00

You can definitely do it!
Im 58 and have done 2 doubles hyrox events.
All sorts of people do it - my partner and I are quite strong but our running is WOEFUL - we just went at our own pace.
practise the wallballs (last station) - runners seem to find these the worst

BamberGirl · 15/05/2026 18:36

Thanks everyone!! I think the biggest challenge might be getting a ticket so if I do then challenge on!

I got a ticket for the Wednesday, women’s doubles in Birmingham.

I’m also hoping to do a deadly dozen, it’s a similar format though the runs aren’t as long but there’s more stations.

Join the Hyrox Newbies Facebook group and there will probably be a Birmingham Hyrox group as well. Loads of questions in there.
Also you can download the Roxfit app which has loads of different workout ideas

If you can do a 5k no problem then it's a great challenge!

There are all sorts of people that enter so I wouldn't give weight or age or anything like that a second thought to be honest. The stuff that you see on socials is mostly beautiful lean 20 somethings but this is not a true representation.

Maybe start with a double and take it from there as the solo is a different beast.

Running is 60% of the race so do make sure you run a lot when you train, and familiarise yourself with the station techniques.

It's a huge buzz and an amazing atmosphere!

BamberGirl · 27/05/2026 14:59

Thanks! I’m excited but will be nervous, I’m doing a double with my son but that does mean men’s weights 😬

beAsensible1 · 27/05/2026 15:01

Unless you are trying to do a crazy time just go at your own pace. I had loads of fun and felt really proud
of myself afterwards.

mens weight is slighter heavier on certain pods. But you can just have your son do slightly more reps to even it out.

BamberGirl · 27/05/2026 22:42

I’m aiming to be able to do half of everything but defo have thought of that as option 😂
hes 6ft5 so I think he will be particularly useful for wall balls and BBJ if needed!

CryingAtTheDiscotheque · 29/05/2026 07:44

Try to practise the sled before you go - men’s weight is really quite heavy so you need a plan (maybe get your son to do most of it!)

on the day go out slower than you want to - you’ll thank yourself later

Have fun and enjoy the buzz!
