Peloton worth it?

Between work and the children I am always pretty busy or trapped in the house as my husband is often away for work or back late. The main slot I have to work out is when the children have gone to bed. I am relatively slim so not looking to loose weight (although I can’t say I would be sad to lose the odd lb), I am more wanting to tone up.

I used to be relatively firm but it seems since 40 I just feel a bit soft and muscle tone has slowly gone. Would 30min a day on a peloton help with this? I am not looking to get ripped or turn into a 40 yr odd old model just look healthy, fit and a bit less wobbly. Realistically, I don’t think I could squeeze in more than this as usually have more work plus general house sorting to do once DC in bed. I also think that a daily short burst would become routine vs my gym classes/workouts which I rarely manage as take too long with drive/ changing etc so mainly use membership for family swims.

I know weights would likely tone me more but for my own sanity I would like a bit of cardio and movement after sitting at a desk.

A peloton is expensive so if 30min a day is likely to make no difference it probably isn’t the best option. However , if 30min a day is likely to help me form up and get my heart rate up it is.

30 minutes would be enough but the main key is consistency. A Peloton is a great bit of kit if you use it, otherwise it becomes an expensive clothes hanger! To use it fully on the bike you also need the subscription, which is £45 a month for the All Access membership.

As an alternative (unless you really like spinning), you could look at Les Mills+ as they have a variety of cardio classes (Combat, HIIT, Dance) without being tied to specific equipment. Peloton also does an App only version, which has HIIT cardio.

Would also recommend looking at EBay and getting a used bike instead of buying new. A lot of barely used ones around. I managed to get one in the back of my Honda Civic (although my DH was very unhappy about it as it weighed a ton).

If you are on the shorter end, you may not find a Peloton comfortable as the handlebars are not adjustable to/from you, only up and down.

I love my peloton. I bought it during lock down and it’s still used. I cycle but also use the app for runs and weight workouts.
it is the same price as a gym membership round here, but I don’t have to leave the house which means I’m far more likely to do it! A half hour class is much easier than travelling to and from a gym.

I have one and love it. Use the weights classes too. Maybe try some classes using the app and a spinning bike in a gym first. If you like the classes you're onto a winner. Big plus for me with a peloton v Les Mills is the music - peloton play loads of music you know. Les Mills don't.

I did a lot of research into studio bikes and ended up buying a Nordic track S24 last October. The iFit membership is £35 but I was put off Peleton by their customer service reviews (look at Trustpilot). My bike was £1500 and I'm so pleased with it - I do a mix of HIIT training and rides (some of the studio classes are akin to torture!). I bought mine to lose weight but do 30 to 40 minutes most days. It's quite addictive.

I have a peloton and it gets used almost daily. They have a range of classes in terms of time so you can do a. Quick 15-20 minute class if that is all the time you have. They also have pilates/ yoga/ strength/ cardio classes that you can do at home and and accompanied running outside or on a treadmill. I have gotten really into pilates using the peloton. The nice thing about the app is it's on your phone and you don't need the bike for all of the classes. I also like the meditation stuff, especially sleep ones.
The instructors are great and a mix of people from the UK and US as well as classes in a German and Spanish if that were an option for you. Also a range of music so you find styles and instructors that suit you.
When we bought it we reasoned we have some money but no time like we used to before kids so it was the right investment for us. Once we paid off the bike it was cheaper than a gym membership and covers up to ten licenses I think so it's £45 for the two of us.
Delivery was good and they put it together for us. I haven't needed to speak with customer service ever so can't really speak to that. We have had it for about three years and it took a while to build it into routines but it gets used daily now.

Absolutely worth it xx

I don’t have a peleton but bought a spin bike from marketplace, my gym app has spin classes of various lengths so I jump on that a couple of times a week and more sometimes. Well worth it for me but the bike cost me about £70 although the gym membership is about £180 a month 😂

PrioritisePleasure24 · 22/04/2026 22:53

I use a spin bike and free you tube videos ( or subscribe to my faves to support them) also loved Les mills RPM for spin, body combat and others. I can’t justify the money Peleton want and can get similar much cheaper. Some great fitness people on you tube.

You probably wanna do some strength work though too.

BB49 · 22/04/2026 22:58

I use mine almost daily and have done since we got it nearly 3 years ago. I use it for bike and strength (weights) classes. I absolutely love it. I run as well but don't use it for that.

I use the Peloton app but have a non Peloton bike. The subscription is only about £25 a month if you don't have the bike. The amount and variety of content is amazing, there really is something for everyone and it caters for all musical tastes with original artist music which Les Mills does not.

I also do a lot of the strength, yoga and pilates classes and the sleep meditations are brilliant.

I hadn’t realised it also did weights classes. How do you use it for this? Do you watch on a phone/I pad or the peloton screen? This really appeals if I could spin 4-5 days and do weights 2.

Did people who started doing 30min a day see a difference in muscle tone? Is it sufficient to firm up do you think? Or realistically is more needed? I’m not looking to get Jillian micheals level ripped but since 40 my muscle mass seems to have really dropped (along with my skin elasticity). Or any similar women in their 40s who just do this on a peloton have you found this enough?

Ipad or laptop for weights. On the bike I just have a clip on phone/tablet holder from Amazon and use my phone.

In my younger days I did cardio and more cardio, I ran most days and did spin classes. I was slim but not particularly toned - although it did keep the weight off. Lifting weights will make a far bigger difference to your appearance, if that's your goal, plus it has all sorts of other benefits.

BluNavy · Yesterday 17:37

I use the peloton screen. My bike has a screen that turns so it faces my mat.
I notice a difference in my general fitness and have lost weight. I think toning etc yes but combined with the weights etc so it depends on what other kit you buy for home. Agree you can also use on any screen. I take to the gym and use it for treadmill etc

If you don't want the expense of a pelaton bike you can always attach of normal bike to a smart trainer by taking of the back wheel. Then use apps like Zwift. This is cycling only though but much cheaper (£17.99) a month.
