Best trainers for cardio fitness and strength training

Hello please can I have recommendations for the best trainers for dance fitness and general cardio and strength training. I have osteoarthritis of the knees and weak ankles so need support. I’ve found asics to be good but my last pair were very tight fitting so wondering if I should just size up or go for something else. Thanks

Probably best with a gym/training shoe with more stability like a Nike metacon or Nike Bella or flex train. ASICS are generally running shoes which won’t offer you much stability just more cushioning

For strength training you need something with a very flat, uncushioned sole, like Nike Metcon.

Are you doing heavy weights, or lighter weight high rep stuff like body pump? For the latter, running shoes like asics are fine. I usually go up half to one whole size.

Thanks all. Not heavy weights just the standard strength machines and low weight dumbbells

Can you afford two pairs?
One for the dance , one for the cardio and weights machines?

Is the cardio going on the bikes in the gym, treadmill, those Nordic skier type machines ?

Stick with your asics then, i find them excellent for classes. They will be fine for the gym though. I'd recommend removing them for lower body machines though e.g. the leg press. I do lift heavy weights but don't have special shoes. I just do my lifts in socks. Off topic I'd recommend lifting a bit heavier. It's great!

The best ones will be the ones that fit your foot best (cushioning, support etc in the right place) and feel comfortable.
The only way to find that is to try many pairs on.

I would either get two pairs. Something like asics for your cardio but then a flatter pair for the gym. Other alternative is to wear no shoes in the gym. I see a lot of lifters doing that for stability.

2 pairs. I agree with Metcon recommendation for weights, love them, but I wouldn't do a dance class in them.

If that's too much of an investment, go for a light flexible and cushioned pair for cardio, it will do for light weights. Nike Free, On Cloudpulse, or also Zumba dance trainers are surprisingly good.

Oh and yes you should buy your trainers a bit bigger than your shoe size, you want to have some space as feet swell up while exercising. I usually go at least half size up, if not full size.

I’ve just checked my asics and they’re already a 5.5 so maybe I need a 6? I was looking at On cloud pulse earlier so good you mentioned them

I’ve ordered on cloudpulse in a 6 so hopefully they will be ok! Thanks
