Sorry, OP, nothing will work. Stretch marks are when the bottom layer of skin snaps and sadly nothing you slather on the outside will change this.

It's down to the luck of the game or how much weight you suddenly put on, as well as genetics.

Honestly I think it’s genetic / luck of the draw. My sister and I both used bio oil. I got no stretch marks and she’s still got red marks 20 years later.

I didn’t get any at all with my first pregnancy using the above products but this time I feel like I’m putting on more weight due to being older. Just thinking along the elasticity lines I did before.

Getting bigger will increase risk of stretch marks but you might just be someone who doesn’t get them.

I’ve had them before but not from pregnancy. Oh wow I didn’t know if was from the bottom part of the skin! So interesting

@tiredmummasita Actually I've just googled it and I misled you! It is apparently the middle layer of skin that tears, not the bottom. AI helpfully tells me

  • The Layers Involved: The skin has three main layers: the epidermis (top), the dermis (middle), and the subcutaneous layer (bottom/fatty layer).
  • The Tear: When skin stretches rapidly (due to pregnancy, weight gain, or growth spurts), the collagen and elastin fibers in the dermis (middle layer) break or tear.
  • Appearance: Because the top layer (epidermis) remains intact, you are seeing the damaged tissue underneath. Initially, they look red or purple because blood vessels under the skin become visible through the tear.
  • Maturation: Over time, these tears fill with scar tissue, and the blood vessels contract, causing the stretch marks to fade to a silvery-white or pale

I have them teenage growth spurts on my thighs. But none from pregnancy 🤷‍♀️ I think it’s just luck and no product will ‘protect’ you
