Hello runners!

Continuing on with our general running chit chat...

I nearly cocked up today. I decided not to get up at run o'clock for the bit of extra sleep and to run this evening instead... forgetting that I had a random commitment. Fortunately I realised in time that I had enough of a window while the DCs were in an activity. It wasn't ideal as I only had 15 mins to get ready after the short, but hilly cycle home from work so my legs hadn't had much recovery, but at least I got out and did it.

Apparently it was "productive" so well worthwhile 😉

Welcome to the newcomers. I’m sure you’ll find lot of support here. I think a few people are planning autumn marathons this year. I’m still undecided about my autumn plans. So far I only have a 10k booked with dd1.

well done to everyone on your runs. It was a bit chilly and windy yesterday compared to how it has been which was a bit of a shock. But the sun had come out in time for club run. 7 mile with the gang including the biggest hill around here! I could tell that’s what our run leader had planned by his evil smile when I asked about where we were going 😂😂. Still, we all made it.

marathon relay this weekend and I’m looking forward to competing in a team event. Never done a relay before so it’ll be something different but the logistics take a bit of working out!

Iamanunsafebuilding · 29/04/2026 14:18

Thanks for the welcome, this seems like a nice place to hang out! Tuesday is my running club night, we run by distance rather than pace so I backmarked our long route with a couple of others and it was a lovely chatty 5 miles.

TyneFilth · 01/05/2026 18:48

Hey @louise12112 I am doing an autumn marathon and it's my first ever of that distance. Hilariously I have chosen that this is to be the Beachy Head trail mara in Oct. It has 1164m of elevation gain... yikes!!

I just saw another fun looking thing in an ad, a half marathon around London Christmas lights, it's not a single event but a route that you get sent, and you can do it whenever, then in the post (I guess) you get a bauble instead of a medal!

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 01/05/2026 19:21

@TyneFilth thats quite some elevation. I’m doing cheddar gorge trail marathon in June and that has 1200m! Then the weekend after I’m doing giants head half which is a bit less steep at 212m. That’ll be dd1s first half, I’m not sure she realises what she’s getting herself into 😂. Should be all good fun.

I’ve decided I’m not running until Sunday (very hard for me) as my long standing injury has been quite sore since the sprint relay session at track on Wednesday and. Need to let it settle before the race on Sunday. Don’t want to end up really injured again!! Happy running all.

BogRollBOGOF · 01/05/2026 19:49

My achilles has begun niggling yet again. Fortunately I'm on a deload week. I've also eased off on walking my commute. The long weekend is very welcome!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 01/05/2026 20:12

I saw that Christmas lights run as well @TyneFilth .

Good luck for Sunday @Whataninterestinglookingpotato

I had a nice sunny 4 miles yesterday. parkrun tomorrow and 8 miles on the plan for Sunday. This time next week we'll be in position for my marathon.

tinks3110 · 02/05/2026 10:25

Hello all, I’ve had a good running week again, 5 miles with run club on Tuesday, 4.5 mile tempo Thursday and just back from a 7.5 mile parkrun sandwich run, which I have never ever done before 😂

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 02/05/2026 11:31

Well done @tinks3110 I do love a parkrun sandwich 😄

Just parkrun for me today, my fastest one since last November. I cycled there and back so feeling quite pleased with myself.

xsquared · 02/05/2026 11:37

Well done Tina's on your first parkrun sandwich.

I had planned parkrun sandwich with my running partner today, but she had to get back sooner, so we did 15 miles together and joined the parkrunners in the middle without crossing the finish line.

Only 3 weeks to go before Edinburgh but I'm just not getting the same excitement as I did with my previous marathons for some reason. 😕

BogRollBOGOF · 02/05/2026 11:56

A pleasing "tempo run" at parkrun this morning. I was trying not to push too hard. Legs on the heavy side but nothing in my achilles all morning.

I had a good massage gadget session last night and there were some really uncomfortable knots in my calves which won't have been helping.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 02/05/2026 13:01

Well done to all the park runners this morning!!

I said I wasn’t going to run until tomorrow’s race. But I went to the gym and felt good and the dog needed a walk, and I thought, why walk with the dog when I could run! 🏃‍♀️ 😂🙈. So I did a little zone 2 5k plod with her and my injury felt ok, niggly but not painful. So as long as I tape tomorrow I think I’ll hold up ok.

tinks3110 · 02/05/2026 16:01

@xsquared i hope you have a great marathon when it comes around and hopefully you’ll feel better about it before the day

i might have been talked in to a hybrid event but have managed to avoid a triathlon 😳

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 02/05/2026 17:19

@xsquared fingers crossed you find your marathon mojo over the next few weeks. I’ve heard good things about Edinburgh marathon. It’s meant to be a good one and am I right in thinking it trends vaguely downhill? Which tbh, sounds quite appealing!!

Iamanunsafebuilding · 02/05/2026 17:55

I volunteered at parkrun this morning as we have a 20 mile event tomorrow. It’s got a nice long cut off so no pressure and I’m running with my friend. DH is quicker than me so he’ll be waiting for me at the end! There’s a pottery mug for finishing rather than a medal which is nice

tinks3110 · 02/05/2026 20:48

I’ve just been convinced to sign up
for a hybrid event in July and totally regretting it as it seems like all of my gym buddies are doing pairs and I am solo?! I’m veering between yes I can do this and oh what have I done

whatsit84 · 03/05/2026 08:47

I‘m a newbie here! Hello! I’m doing a general ‘run faster’ plan on Runna until I start a half marathon training block (for end of October) in another 7 weeks. Did a hilly 16k yesterday and due to next weekend’s commitments, going to do a progressive 17k tomorrow. My legs are anticipating the pain….!

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 03/05/2026 15:03

Welcome to the thread @whatsit84 good luck with your half marathon training.

@tinks3110 what does the hybrid event entail? I’m sure you’ll be able to smash it. You e been running really well!

north Dorset marathon relay completed today as a mixed team, 2 males and 2 females. Our over all time was 3:07 which isn’t too shabby!! 3 of us got 10k PBs within the run. I finally have a sub 45 minute 10k time! Yay!

happy running all!

tinks3110 · 04/05/2026 09:20

@Whataninterestinglookingpotato
its 1km runs with 5 work stations in between. There are devil press, sled push/pull, wall balls. I forget the other ones or have blocked them from my mind 😳

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 04/05/2026 09:27

So it’s like hyrox then @tinks3110 I wouldn’t stress too much about it. Just go at your own pace and enjoy it for the novelty. I’m sure you’ll do just fine.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 04/05/2026 09:53

Morning all, happy bank holiday Monday.

Well done on your marathon relay @Whataninterestinglookingpotato .

@tinks3110 we've just been watching a piece on hyrox on BBC breakfast or whatever the morning show is. Looks fun!

Welcome to the thread @whatsit84

How did you get on with your 20 mile event @Iamanunsafebuilding

I did one of my favourite routes yesterday. A bit slow in the middle as there were some young cows in one of the fields, but the farmer assured me they would leave me alone if I took it gently.

Iamanunsafebuilding · 04/05/2026 18:46

@OhOneOhTwoOhThreeit was beautiful, around the Marlborough Downs and through Avebury but I found it hard going. The weather forecast was overcast and possible rain, we got full on sunshine and it was way hotter than I expected. This was also my first long run since my ultra 4 weeks ago. I know that’s excuses really but ultimately I ran with my DH and a friend and we took it easy when I needed to and had a lovely time! There was a hand thrown pottery mug instead of a medal which is nice as well

tinks3110 · 04/05/2026 21:50

@OhOneOhTwoOhThree
I think it will be fun
and I’m def not worried about the running I’ve since found out it’s 1km runs between 5 work
stations and then a 5k run at the end. It will be different and my wall balls are not the best so might be at that station a while but it’s a new challenge for me and I like that. 3 years ago I would never even have considered it

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 04/05/2026 21:51

That sounds lovely @Iamanunsafebuilding except for the unexpected heat. Glad you enjoyed and the mug sounds like a lovely post-race keepsake.

Have a good week runners!

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 05/05/2026 07:52

@Iamanunsafebuilding that sounds like a lovely race! Sounds like a nice finishers prize too.
