Sounds like you’ve had a great running week @SFRSmum. 100 miler is crazy!! I have my first 50k in 2 days weeks time but will see how I get on with that before I try and go further. Hats off to you!

welcome to the thread @DesLynamsMoustache well done on your 10k success! That’s a fantastic time especially considering you’re new to running.

rest day from running for me today. Though I’ll pop to the gym later for some very boring strength training. Bit my favourite but needs to be done!

BogRollBOGOF · 22/06/2026 18:33

I'm on the injury bench... but being careful about the sitting as I've got a mardy tendon around my hamstring/ glute which is fussy about moving and being sat on for too long.
I had a routine osteopath appointment last week and he said to pause on the running. Sigh.

I will jeff my HM next weekend, but take it gently after two weeks of rest, and see where I'm at after that. I am fully trained from it, up to taper point. (Osteopath did agree to this plan)

He probably felt like he was talking to a small child... "can I run?" "can I cycle?" "can I swim?" "can I do yoga?" "can I do weight lifting?" Far too many "noes" for my liking, but I got some yeses for my perseverence Wink

I think I need to go back to basics when it settles, because things haven't been right for a while, all over. I haven't got any imminent plans after this and hadn't committed to an autumn HM. There is a race late autumn I want to do and should be good to get back to that distance over the summer and autumn, but a Sept/ Oct HM isn't something I want to rush into at this moment.
It isn't as inhibiting as my achilles was a few years back so hopefully that bodes well.

Sorry to hear that you’re on the injury bench @BogRollBOGOF healing vibes to you. Hopefully you’ll get round your half ok.

club run for me tonight on a very warm evening. We only did 5 miles tonight but that was fine for how hot it was. Despite the heat there was a good group of us as those that showed up from the 3 faster pace groups ran together. Nice evening and good vibes. Now chilling in the pool but need to go and make some dinner. Sigh.

BogRollBOGOF · 25/06/2026 18:23

I did my circuits class last night with very few twinges, but did adapt and take it easy on my sensitive side. It has been less whingy this week, and with the heat this week, at least I have zero guilt about not running.

I did 20k steps yesterday though. No mean feat in a steamy school!

I’m using the Coopah app for a running plan. I’m aiming to get a sub 2 in my half marathon in September. I’ve done 2 before and my fastest time was 2.14, and 2.26 before then. Part of the plan said to have a B goal. So I opted for a 5km PB. I did it today, in 21 degree and managed a 25min!! I’m so pleased with myself. A couple of years ago I’d have never have dreamed that I’d get under 30minutes.

SFRSmum · 25/06/2026 21:06

Well done @captainbarnacles123 that's an impressive 5k time compared to you HM times, you'll definitely be able to achieve that sub 2hr goal.

Sorry to hear your injured @BogRollBOGOF although it's good you've got a plan and there are some activities still on the ok list.

I've been to run club tonight, we short intervals, I really enjoyed it, and managed to get up to some good speeds, I think I'm going to focus on a bit of speed work when all my mega runs are over (last one is in November 🤣) it will be interesting to see where I am with that. At the moment its mainly time on feet and perseverance.

Good luck with the 50k @Whataninterestinglookingpotato ultras really are my favourite distance. Although I feel like a bit of a fraud as I'm definitely not fast and I definitely don't run even half of the distance, I'd say id be lucky if I ran a quarter of The Wall.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 25/06/2026 21:37

Thank you @SFRSmum im really looking forward to it. It’s my first ultra so will see how it goes. I’m running it with a group of friends. I’m the only female though and some of the guys are pretty quick, though I am better over long distances than all bar one of them. So mostly my job is to tell the young fast ones to slow down continuously or they’ll never make it!! You do walk more when you’re on trails. I think I walked about a third of cheddar and still somehow managed to come in 1st 😂😂.

if this goes well I’m thinking of a 50 miler.

well done on your intervals @SFRSmum

welcome to the thread @captainbarnacles123 that’s a good 5k time. I don’t think sub 2 is unachievable for you.

Glad the heat is taking away the not running gilt @BogRollBOGOF hope you’re back to normal soon.

I actually got up and ran at 6:30 this morning. It’s almost unheard of for me but I managed to get 10k in before heading off to a conference for work. I then went and did very warm hill repeats with the gang this evening with a nice pint after. I would usually run there and back but I didn’t tonight as it was so hot and I’d already been out once today.

tinks3110 · 01/07/2026 09:15

hi all

I've been awol again! Was away beginning of last week and resting from running after my calf injury.

sunday was my ultra warrior. I finished 3 laps just outside the 5 hour window and am so proud of myself. 36k (furthest I’ve ever run) and 75 obstacles. Still on a bit of a high. Can’t say the same for my body 🤣 one of my toenails has a blister underneath it.

next up I have a wild hybrid race thing on 11th July. Happy running all xx

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 01/07/2026 20:53

Well done on your ultra warrior @tinks3110 that sound like loads of fun. Good luck for your hybrid race.

I did club run last night, I ran with the faster group and the fastest lady in the club was there. Me and another guy I often run with were chatting to her as we were running down hill and didn’t realise how fast we were going. When we started climbing again she kept the same pace and was just chatting effortlessly while me and the other guy were hanging on for dear life trying to still talk and not look like we were dying! 😂😂. We were literally doing my 10k race pace 😂, I don’t usually have to talk at that pace! 😂.

track tonight. Good session. Now I’m debating whether to do a gentle hills session tomorrow or just to give myself 2 days rest before my first ultra on Saturday. Decisions decisions 🤔😂

BogRollBOGOF · 02/07/2026 21:28

Finally my post-HM aches are easing off! Considering I jeffed 30:30, I'm surprised how much it took out of me. I wonder whether the heat of the last week was taking its toll. I was only two minutes behind my colleague who ran it all Grin

I'm glad I've got that behind me now. I enjoyed doing it, but there's now no pressure on race fitness so I can recover and deal with my niggles. I think a back to basics phase is needed.

Well done on your half marathon @BogRollBOGOF

yesterday I did my first 50k ultra. The start didn’t go according to plan at all as we started way too far back and had to go really slowly behind people for probably nearly 2 miles. This led to the youngest lad in our group getting a bit impatient and going on too fast ahead of us, meaning we all probably got dragged on a bit too fast. Then another guy took a nasty tumble at about mile 8 and cut his head open. We helped him get to the next aid station which luckily was only about a mile away and waited while he was patched up. We stayed as a group for a while but then one of the other guys who has done the route several times before told me to run on and said he would stay with the injured guy until the end as he was struggling a bit that day anyway.

So I left them at about mile 12 and at about mile 19 caught the younger guy from our group up. He said he was done in and was going to slow down (which is classic for him and I will give him some stick about it 😂, all just friendly banter). So I carried on feeling pretty good to be honest. Made fairly good time despite the massive hills, chatted to lots of people along the way and made a friend for the last few miles, she was really quick but kept getting lost and so ended up behind. My navigation was actually working really well on my watch (I was super worried about getting lost) so we decided to just stick together. The last few miles were mainly downhill but quite technical in parts through over grown woods and rocky paths. Then you come out into the town and it was a lovely down hill to the sea. In the end I came in 7th female in a time of 5:33. Very happy with that and I enjoyed it so much (apart from my friends injury) that I have signed up for next year already.

i dunked myself in the sea and then we all sat around on the sea front cheering the rest of our club members in with a nice cold beer. It was a lovely day.

happy running all.

SFRSmum · 05/07/2026 12:40

@Whataninterestinglookingpotato well done! Super time and to come 7th female with the stops is impressive! Fantastic running!

I've had a bit of a foot off the pedal week, I'm not sure what's wrong. I'm exhausted, not particularly run wise, just burnt out I think
I've managed a gentle 10 miles, park run and a social run today which actually I did enjoy once I was out
Off on holiday tomorrow for a week, I really must pack! Only planning on doing short easy sub 5k runs when I'm away. Once I'm back it's 10 days until the 100 miler so I'll be taking things easy from now on.

Happy running everyone 😁

BogRollBOGOF · 05/07/2026 20:05

Just parkrun for me in the past week. Obviously parkruns and HMs are exempt from running bans aren't they? 😈

In my defence, I repeated last Saturday's strategy of walking lap 1 and Jeffing lap 2 30:30, so it's not even one mile of actual running so it hardly counts at all really Wink

I can't cope with not running, plus cycling is off too so I do need to let some steam off to be able to sleep at night.

I'm not getting too much bother post-HM. The glute was actually worse for the day I got to sit down for two hours at work, although my knee (not the original problem) was glad of the rest.

I'll do this week as another rest week and start phasing in a bit if niggles remain calm.

Well today in 30 degree heat I did wild hybrid. The runs were horrific but I quite liked the work stations.
finished solid unscaled in 1:36:38

Well done Tinks. Sounds strenuous but you smashed it.

tinks3110 · 11/07/2026 20:25

It was awful, I’d never be choosing to run at 13.40 in this heat. But proud of myself for the exercise stations

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · Yesterday 14:56

Well done @tinks3110 sounds tough, especially in this heat, but you smashed it!

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · Yesterday 18:49

A bit of parkrun tourism for me this weekend. A group of us camped for a running club friends birthday and we all took part in a coastal parkrun yesterday morning which is meant to be one of the hardest in the U.K.

it was really tough! Running on loose sand is not for the weak! 😂😂 came in 4th female and 1st in my category. We then had a lovely day on the beach. Great weekend had by all.

happy running folks.

BogRollBOGOF · Yesterday 21:40

Parkrun was plenty for me this weekend.
Still in taking it gently mode, and I didn't feel my injury niggle while running. Ironically, I'm more likely to notice it after prolonged sitting!

Hopefully I can phase in a few more short, gentle jeffs soon to start building up.

My other running win for the weekend has been filling my running journal. I hadn't updated it since early April!

At least being injured there's only been a few runs in the last few weeks. Silver linings and all that Wink

With having trained for a HM in June and having a run of busy weekends all term, it's actually been nice not having guilt about not running in the heat and just catching up on the journal.
