Headaches after fitness classes

After some advice: has anyone else experienced getting severe headaches a few hours after a class? That then turn into full blown migraines, Occasionally dizzy during certain exercises and blurry vision? I started to experience this within the last month and never have before, seems to be related to just when I exercise.
ps had an eye test a couple weeks back told I have 20/20 vision 💁‍♀️ im 40 this year.

Drink more water? It's very common to get headaches and the answer is often water so I'd try that first. My post workout snack is chopped melons and coconut water both really help with hydration and preventing my migraines

its a bit strange. The dizziness during exercise could be blood pressure related if your BP is going high ow low and headaches can also be bloody pressure related. I would probably get it checked out if it’s happening often and is more than just a coincidence.

Migraine and exercise - The Migraine Trust https://share.google/lKJ3PLQMAIEEPDQIV

It is a known link but there are lots of reasons why it might happen, including not eating or drinking enough.

Is it during high intensity exercise? Are you ok after doing things like pilates or a low intensity exercise session.

For me it was doing intense exercise before I was fit enough.

This is a reply I posted on a previous thread about exercise induced headaches;

When I started on my fitness journey if I did anything intense I suffered an awful headache which came on about an hour or 2 after and was really painful and would last for a few hours. During the class (usually a hiit class or a body combat class) I would feel like I was pushing hard but able to keep the intensity going. I was also doing other classes like body pump and a general aerobics class which I didn't have a headache after. Like you I presumed hydration or needing to eat before/after but neither made any difference. I was using a fitbit and by looking at the stats and comparing for each class I could see that my heart rate was going very high for sustained periods in the hiit and combat classes, so realised that my fitness levels weren't up to it. I cut back on those classes and built my fitness up more gradually (eg, cross trainer, uphill treadmill walking) and then added the classes back in but taking it at a gentler place at first.

Once I became fitter I was able to do the intense exercise without getting a headache afterwards.

Thankyou everyone for the input, a few things for me to consider, I’ve always been a generally fit person, I have a 3 yr old and gained a lot of weight after which put me off exercise, but got back into it a year ago, have been absolutely fine all this time until last month, 2 of my classes I go to start at 6am so never normally eat anything so may have a quick banana before I leave, and I upped my weights which maybe I’ll drop down a size again and see if this helps, I have quite a high water intake throughout the day, so not sure that is the problem, thankyou for all the helpful tips, kind regards

take electrolytes?

Xxlealea86xx · 07/02/2026 23:03

Yup take them straight after a class when I get to work. 😊

Try electrolytes before you work out rather than after

Bufftailed · 07/02/2026 23:10

Yes I do. Overdoing it. Also if it is hot. Maybe just slow down a bit. I also needed more water

This happens to me , I have very low blood pressure and eventually had to accept that I can’t do high intensity exercise - it’s not about pushing through, if you have low bp it can be dangerous, luckily for me my SIL used to be a personal trainer and was happy to help advise me, there is a whole world out there of other exercise options , walking and yoga are the ones for me, could be worth a start with those ?

Xxlealea86xx · 08/02/2026 08:27

Thankyou all, will try electrolytes before I workout, and my blood pressure is normal when I take it most times as that was my first thought, Catamagic did it suddenly start happening? As I’ve done high intensity most my life , the only difference now just getting older and have a toddler. Kind regards

Started getting migraines with aura after exercise. I add electrolytes to my water bottle and take a high enough dose of magnesium glycinate (400 to 500 mg) every day which really helped. Should be information about this online.

NailsHairNipsHeels · 12/02/2026 03:14

I get this, I’m very sweaty and I don’t drink as much as I should..well not as much water as I should. I don’t feel as bad if I drink an electrolytes drink before and straight after exercising. I also have something salty straight after exercise which seems to help as well. I always put it down to dehydration.
