My poor bleeding feet!

Ok, I normally walk about 5k a day with my dogs, but I need to up that to lose weight ( I know I can’t walk off a bad diet, but that’s being dealt with ) but I can’t walk further outside because one of my dogs is a bit older.
so I’ve bought a walking pad and there’s the rub, literally!
My feet are blistering and my second toe, longer than my big toe is really hurting. Can anyone recommend decent socks, supports, insoles etc. I’m wearing the trainers I did couch to 5k in on my previous treadmill and the long weekend dog walks. They’re really comfortable, but my feet are killing me.
Thanks

It sounds as if your trainers need replacing.

If you have had the trainers a while the soles can stiffen and they become less usable / comfortable. I would recommend going to a sports shop that does gait assessment to find a pair of trainers to give the correct support for you.

Because of pressure at the tip against the toe of your trainer?
Could you be walking on your pad with a different gait to normal?

Are your trainers half or even a size bigger than what you need?

It is always advisable to size up as feet swell during exercise. I also wear running socks as they have extra padding in specific areas.

I always walk barefoot or in socks and have never had a problem - it might be worth a try

Sounds like your trainers are too small and you need a style with a wider toe box.

I walk in socks on my walking pad and it is fine. Try that. I've had to change my natural gait to walk on the pad and I think that is why it is more comfortable in just socks.

Thank you for all your advice. I think you could be right about the trainers, I’ve had them two years and I’ve covered a lot of miles in them. I actually tried walking in just socks and it was better, no rubbing, but I think I will go and get some different trainers. With my last pair I did go half a size up because of my long second toe which does mean the rest of the foot moves around a bit more than it should. I have narrow feet, a size 5-5.5 normally but I did get a six just so the toe wasn’t bruised when jogging. It’s a shame they are no good for the walking pad but they are still super comfy for walking the dogs. I’m going to persevere with the walking pad and eventually do couch to 5k again. I’ve put a significant amount of weight on over the last few years and I always eat better when I exercise as I don’t like wasted effort.
