Walking boots

Not sure which board to post this on but can anyone recommend a good pair of walking boots?? I have been to the GP as I’ve had foot pain for a few months (in between my big and second toe). GP thinks it may be a neurofibroma and I am awaiting an ultrasound scan to confirm.

I could do with some wide fitting boots that are well cushioned and comfy. Any recommendations?

I have Scarpa Terra gore tex ones - for me they really help foot pain but am wary of suggesting them as I have narrow feet and scrunched up toes ( sadly the only bit of me that is narrow )

I've got some Merrell Vego boots, I have wide feet and find them a good fit.

Thehorticuluralhussie · 04/01/2026 22:16

Brasher men’s are perfect for my wide feet and bunion.

I have Scarpa leather boots, my second pair and they last for years. I have wide feet and prominent bunions but they are very comfortable. I wear orthotic insoles in them (and in all my other shoes).

I'm a massive fan of INOV8 boots which come in three widths plus they are super light. They currently have a sale on:

The best boots are the ones that fit you the best. If you go to a Cotswolds they will fit you specifically across multiple brands of boots. They know which suit wide/narrow feet, which are stiffer/have more support vs which are more flexible.

Hodge00079 · 05/01/2026 00:01

I find sketchers really comfy. Think good socks make all the difference too.

Think you may need to try on several pairs before you find the ones for you.

I need wide boots especially across the toes, mine are Berghaus.
dh had some foot issues and got some special 3d printed insoles (from a specialist running shoe shop which does gait analysis etc) - he uses these in his normal walking shoes (Brookes) as well as in his boots. Expensive but they’ve been quite transformative for him.
he went to a podiatrist as well, you might benefit from doing that too perhaps.

Hellohah · 05/01/2026 07:16

I've also got Merrell boots, I have bunions so need a wide fit and they are great for me.

PeppyAquaFinch · 05/01/2026 08:36

I’ve also just got a pair of Merrells which are so comfy.

I bought them in Go Outdoors, didn’t expect great service to be honest but I hit the jackpot with a young man who was so knowledgeable and kind and found the perfect pair for me, so happy!

LoudSnoringDog · 05/01/2026 08:38

I have wide feet and got a pair from The North Face in lockdown. They have served me very well.

FrostyMorn · 05/01/2026 08:39

I have wide feet and a fallen arch and am on my second pair of North Face (first pair lasted a good 10 years). I find them very comfortable. They have removable insoles so you can insert a more supportive one if needed.

There are many ‘good’ brands OP, you need to get to Go Outdoors, Cotswolds and similar and speak to the staff.
Decathlon too.

There are insoles like the Absorbathon range ( think I spelt the brand wrong ) that you can add for better padding than the stock insoles.

MynameisJune · 05/01/2026 08:51

I’ve got wide feet, dodgy toes and I’m flat footed when walking/standing. I’ve got Hoka walking boots, plus a fitted insole from a podiatrist. I’ve done 20+ miles up mountains in them. Never had a blister or even super sore feet after.

Blingismything · 05/01/2026 08:58

I have some Salomon elixir activ GTX, they are great, very light and extremely comfortable. They replaced some old Merrells that lasted a long time.

LIZS · 05/01/2026 09:03

Go to a specialist shop like Snow and Rock,Ellis Brigham or an independent retailer who can assess your feet and let you try different ones. I’ve used Meindl but even styles within a brand will vary in fit.

countrygirl99 · 05/01/2026 09:17

It doesn't matter what other people like, they aren't good if they aren't the right shape for your feet. As PP have suggested go to a specialist shop and get a proper fitting otherwise you could easily make an expensive mistake.

Same. After years of cheap Regatta and Karrimor, I have just switched to Merrels. They are the best boots I have ever had. Nice wide toe box, and very springy.

I got them from Blacks half price!!

PrettyinBlue72 · 05/01/2026 19:53

I’ll take a look. Thanks all.

I have Gelert boots from Sports Direct and they’re brilliant. Wide fit, comfortable for miles hikes (I have joint issues including arthritis) and last really well.

Snowinsummer · 05/01/2026 22:51

I’m a long distance walker & swear by my Meindls.

Exactly this
Cotswold Outdoor or a good independent outdoor shop should be able to help you.

From experience Keen and Scarpa “B” last boots (there will be a code stamped on the collar of the boot which begins with A or B) are wide fitting, but there are so many variations in boot fit, there is no single “best” boot, it’s very personal.

CrochetMadRosie · 06/01/2026 08:03

I have a pare of Meindl boots. They do a ‘comfort fit’ which is for wider feet.
I have these but you definitely do need to try them on yourself.
I’ve had Merrell in the past, but couldn’t find any that were comfortable for me last year.
