How often do you run?

Asking partly because I’m nosey but also because I’m trying to get myself into a better routine and it’s always interesting to see what others do.

I’m 25 and have been running on and off since I was 20 and consistently since I was 24. I started off with couch to 5K over lockdown and ran on and off until 2024. Didn’t crack a sub-30 5K until 2024.

I now consistently run a weekly parkrun only missing it if Parkrun itself cancels it. My current flat course 5K PB is 22:30 and my usual on my local hilly course is between 24 and 25 minutes. I haven’t followed a formal training plan since couch to 5K but have ran a few 10k races in under an hour (between 51 and 55 mins usually).

I am still only running once a week at Parkrun and would like to increase this. I really enjoy running once I get started but struggle with motivation especially with the dark evenings. I work full time and by the time I’ve finished work and walked the dog I can’t be bothered!

My goals would be to get faster at 5 and 10K. I’d love a sub 20 5K. And also to do a half marathon at some point (although wouldn’t be fussed about speed with a half).

So back to the original question. For those of you who run, what is your running schedule and when do you fit it in?

Never 🤣 I don’t want to knacker my knees, get really wrinkled face or neck or saggy boobs. People who run look like they’re in agony too.

i never see runners looking like their in agony, whilst running or otherwise. What a weird comment 😂

also you're gonna get wrinkles one way or another, just so you are aware.

Wrong! I actually had mild knee pain when I started running (and occasionally before that) and an MRT scan showed that the cartilage in that knee was almost gone, there was a tear in my meniscus plus I had a 6cm big cyst in that knee. My orthopedist recommended to keep on running. I added dynamic stretches before each and every run and am absolutely pain free.
Plus I always run through a nature reserve and just being there makes me feel fantastic and always puts happy expression and a smile on my face.

Running doesn't knacker your knees, that's a fallacy. If anything it's better for your knees because it helps keep your weight under control. I have quite a fat face which helps with the runners' face thing and I am sorry but I think saggy boobs come to us all at one age or another.

To answer the question, I do parkrun every week and train with my club twice a week - one is a social run, one is intervals or hills. And I usually run a fourth time a week too. Otherwise I do pilates and a bootcamp type class once a week too.

Cute that you’ve believed the old wives tales @Regularmumm what exercise do you do consistently? Running is actually very good for your bone health. I also think most of the people in my running club look great for their ages compared to the general population, but you do you.

I usually run 4-6 days a week totalling around 35 miles. Slightly more if marathon training, slightly less if busy with other stuff.

I have been injured and so had to have 4 weeks out and have returned over the last 2 weeks. I’m planning on 3 runs a week until after Christmas and then hopefully I’ll be able get back to normal ready for marathon training. 3 runs and 18 miles last week. Planning on similar this week. Will see what happens with Christmas in the middle!

3-4 times a week. Maybe 5 if I’m marathon training
