Knee pain - collagne peptide?

For context, i have never had knee pain before deapite running marathons in my 20s. I am almost 50 now.
o have recently lost 20kg /3 stones thanks to mounjaro and i have one more stone to go. So technically my knees should be happy not to have to carry so mich extra weight…
simce ive lost weight, i have resumed exercising and this is 1 hot yoga class a week and 1 bootcamp class in the park (no running, no weight). Sometimes i’ll add a calisthenic video but not consistently

my knees hurt ! The pain is at the front and on the sides, both knees. The pain never really go away..
my IG feed keeps promoting collagne peptide for joint protection- anyone tried with good results?
or any other advice? How can i prevent the knee pain? I dont do any impact exercise so i dont understand why it hurts

Go to the doctors and get it checked out. Take ibuprofen. Maybe try a physio. Don’t waste your money on collagen peptides

I had knee pain, mainly down the sides but also on the knee cap. I decided it was more ligament than bone pain so started taking Kolo marine collagen and the pain has gone. I also no longer have pain when I’ve been sitting in the same position for a while, and I don’t let out a little groan when I stand up.

Yes, get to the doctor. It may be arthritis or any number of things.

FWIW I have arthritis in both knees. I have been able to reduce the pain massively in both knees by strengthening my legs through strength training. (With and without weights). My doctor also told me not to stop running.

But that’s an aside, get to the doctor.

If the pain started after you began exercising again, it's probably still a case of too much too quickly, especially if you've been inactive for a while. Even if your classes don't involve running or impact there might be some movement or action that's put too much strain on you. From what you've said it doesn't sound like arthritis - more like tendon or ligament pain.

If you can, I'd recommend shelling out for a decent sports physio, it's not usually too much for one appointment and one follow-up. They will probably be better at figuring out exactly what the issue is and suggesting solutions.

Probably wouldn't hurt to see a doctor and check some other things in the meantime e.g. deficiencies but I think you would have noticed more general problems if that was the cause.

and maybe replace one session with swimming. I wonder if all the lunges and squats i am doing at the moment are quite taxing on the knees

I'd pay to go to a good exercise physiotherapist - one used to working with recreational exercisers. They'll give you useful and rehabilitative exercises to strengthen and "bullet proof" your knees.

You need to strengthen all the muscles around the knees - particularly glutes & quads. What you're doing is probably not enough if you've had several decades of not exercising.

But you need to keep exercising, not stop. A doctor will just say Stop. A good exercise physio will help you to keep moving. (good physios are the angels who walk this earth ...)

Do get it checked out, just in case, but I can say that taking collagen peptides helped my knee pain. I was getting knee pain and hand pain, I thought it might be the start of arthritis, but it went away when I started taking collagen peptides.

I do low carb and cannot eat in the morning, so I use collagen powder as a protein powder meal supplement in the mornings.
Adding more protein/fat to your diet might help too, as all the connective tissue in our body gets worn out and needs to replaced all the time :)

Squats and lunges definitely sound like the culprits! That's a lot of work for your knees if your glutes and core are a bit lax from not exercising for a while, or if you spend a lot of time seated, e.g. for work.

Also if you don't want to/can't pay for a physio, you can probably do ok by googling your specific knee pain and looking up some gentle isometric exercises. You said it hurts at the front - look up patellar tendonitis, does that describe how it feels? Does it hurt on the outer sides? - look up iliotibial band syndrome. These are 2 of the most common knee overuse injuries.
