Running trainers

Hi, I’m relatively new at running, started c25k and I’ve managed my first 5k, and I’m now running 4 times a week. I’ve been wearing some new balance trainers - not specific running ones and no issues so far, but I’m conscious I’m now running longer and I’d like to treat myself - there seems so much choice / price brackets - is there a fail safe brand??

You need a gait analysis done. Google for your closest available

Different brands suit different feet. Get yourself to a decent shop that will look at your feet and fit you properly. It is well worth it especially as your distances increase to protect you from injury.

Yep. What everyone else said! Honestly go to the running shop and have a bit of time trying different shoes.

I now have a preferred brand as a long distance runner but it’s taken lots of runs to get here!

We all will have different preferred shoes that suit our feet and level of activity. You need to find what works for you.

I like my asics novablast 5s for training and my Saucony endorphin speed 5s for racing. I brought a pair of Saucony omnis as they were cheap in the sale and I’ve found them surprisingly good for mixed terrain runs. I also have some ASICS gel trabuco trail shoes.

so really you need to find what will suit you best and it will probably be individual. Go and get gait analysis done. I didn’t find it super helpful but it was good to be able to try on lots of different shoes to see what I liked. Though I have only done this for road shoes. I took a punt on my trail ones and they’re pretty good.
