Decent looking gym clothing to boost my motivation?

I have recently started using the gym to try and work on my strength, I much prefer to swim but am doing the gym as I know I need to.
I am looking for some new gym gear to boost my motivation as it is flagging a bit.
My current stuff is black capri leggings and a bobbly black T shirt.
A lot of the women there wear tight shorts and vest/crop tops which I dont much fancy but I would like to treat myself to a few nice pieces, ideally on Vinted as I try to buy preloved.

Any recommendations please?
Am mid 50s, slim and have toned legs. Bit wobbly in the mid section.

TIA

I like Sweaty Betty, they do some nice colourful gym gear. Power leggings are good for holding everything in (I'm late 50s).

Gymshark is my go-to- they do have a lot of cropped tops/teeny tiny shorts but their leggings are good and they do have decent full coverage sports tops as well

Thanks for those suggestions. Sweaty Betty very nice but probably over budget unless I can find preloved.
Do you use the Gymshark leggings for gym work Tantrums? There is a lot of choice....

M & S Good Move range is nice and I often find it in charity shops - not worn - maybe the person probably decided the gym wasn’t for them. The leggings are a nice fit and there are quite a few tops. Sainsbury’s sports bras are good too.

Gymshark Whitney leggings are really comfortable and flattering.

I like lululemon. It is pricey. It sales are usually good or second hand on vinted.
I would recommend investing in some good bras as this makes the biggest difference to how comfortable I am working out.

Sweaty Betty has frequent sales where you can get over 50% off. You can also buy it in John Lewis. I have never paid more than £40 for my Power leggings. The full price is crazy!

I donated a full lovely set of m+ s good move to the charity shop. Great colours, but the leggings rolled right down (unappealing and uncomfortable!) and the jumper bobbled so much I had to return it, and the replacement one was nearly as bad.

My vote is for Adidas high waisted running leggings. They have a tie waist and pockets. Then get one of the easy wash, quick dry t-shirts. I haven't many Adidas ones, but regatta have some great cheap ones. Get black if you feel more comfortable, but they've got loads of lovely colours.

The good thing about most fitted shorts is that they’re very high waisted so good at holding everything in around the middle!

I buy nearly all my fitness gear on Vinted. My favourite shorts are Tala ones. My Protein or Pursue fitness are also decent brands which are quite cheap second hand. Even the Primark workout shorts are ok - v cheap and only last about 15 washes before they lose they’re firmness, but good as an entry level to see if you’re comfy in that length. For leggings I mostly wear sweaty Betty power 7/8 because I’m short, but all my working out is outside. In a gym I think I’d stick to shorts.

Vests I’m less choosy on but the fitter I’ve got the more cropped I’ve dared to go!

Most of mine is from Tesco. Really comfy.

SoftLass · 30/08/2025 14:02

Sweaty Betty are brilliant and easy to find on Vinted.
I also really like CRZ yoga leggings, they are the softest, most comfortable ones I've found! Also plenty on Vinted but they are not very expensive in the first place on Amazon

pambeesleyhalpert · 30/08/2025 14:57

Sweaty betty is my go to (and the entire gyms)

pambeesleyhalpert · 30/08/2025 14:57

Don’t buy full price tho they ALWAYS have sales on

According to my DD, capri leggings are out and only women over the age of 50 wear them.
I see that statement as an improvement compared to the one she made about Facebook ( only old people like in 40 and older are on FB), however since she said that about capri pants, I did pay attention at the gym, and she seems to be right . No capri leggings on young women.

Find motivation in being trendy as well so go for ankle length or shorts.
