Im 60 years old, I do drop sets to failure on hack squats and machine leg press. Leg extension and leg curl, I do feel slight burn but still enough in the tank for the sled. The following day I am absolutely shattered, to the point I need a sleep daytime, is this normal? Tia

I always need a nap on lifting days, and I’m only in my late 30s (so does DH early 40s). If you’re training with heavy weight, it can be really taxing on your central nervous system. I see the naps as (an enjoyable) part of my recovery and growth.

Drop sets to failure on big movements like that would be very fatiguing. Seems an excessively intense way to train, and as you’re finding not that sustainable unless there’s a reason you’re wanting to train that way? I’m a powerlifter so do lots of intense work and need to consider longevity if I’m going to keep competing for a while. My coach wouldn’t programme me drop sets to failure.
