Honestly? Can't stand them. Bought spinlocks years ago and they basically just collect dust. Changing the weights is a pain between sets and they always feel loose no matter how well you tighten them. If it's about the cost, buy hex dumbbells in a few key weights and then slowly build your collection as money allows.

I got a second hand set from Facebook and I like it for some things .

Bowflex. They are expensive but are at least easy to change weights (and cheaper than the equivalent of normal DBs). I have had mine for about 5 years and they are still fine. You have to treat them with care and not drop them. The shape means they are a bit awkward compared to normal ones, but no worse than the cheaper types which I had before and tired of very fast.

I bought some Nordictrak ones from John Lewis. They're ok but pretty clunky but perhaps not much more clunky than a regular 25kg dumbbell would be. I wanted as heavy as I could get at home (so 50kg). I still use my 8kgs on their own. If I had loads of money and space I'd buy individual ones.

I read a lot of reviews re adjustable ones and Nordictrak came out well. It's easy to adjust the weight compared to lots of others
