Hi, I'm looking at becoming a pilates instructor but I'm a bit lost with courses
I've found a level 3 mat and then level 3 reformer course with the fitness group. Totals about 2k .... which is 2k cheaper than another one I was looking at.
I will have my own studio at home and be self employed. Am I missing something with the course being alot cheaper ... says its recognised by CIMPSA. Any info and help will be appreciated

Wouldn't go for HFE.
Try one of the better longer courses.
Also most reformer instructors do not have the mat knowledge and technique. They are after reformer because it is more lucrative. The personalised knowledge to stop you injuring yourself isn't there.

Would you recommend any courses? Furture fit was the first one I was looking at

I've been a mat instructor for 15 years. I have a reformer I use at home but I'm not trained to teach it.

It depends what sort of clients you'll be working with. If you're working with people who may be recovering from injuries, maybe older adults or people with conditions like osteoporosis I'd look at the companies that are pure pilates trainers and have a more clinical background rather than fitness companies. Have a look at Body Control, Polestar, Basi or APPI. Modern Pilates if you're in the North East. If you currently attend pilates classes and like the style, ask the instructor where they trained.

I can't imagine, at the cost of 2k for mat and reformer, you'll have enough face to face training days and really, you want as many as possible. Have you got a fitness background? The L3 mat qualification can be a lot to get your head around so I'd probably recommend you concentrate on that first of all, get experience teaching mat pilates then move on to reformer training, particularly if you want longevity in the industry.

At my local reformer the Stott qualified instructor is seen as the best- although all are very good at adapting etc..
