Want to switch personal trainer

Was for many years a regular gym goer at my work gym in cushy public sector gym. The personal trainers were lovely and great price. Recently left that job and joined a Virgin Active. They allocated a personal trainer. I find we are not vibing. She is competent but doesn’t chat at all. Her English is not good so that’s probably part of the reason. But I just find her dull / too serious and it’s so boring to get through an hour of training without any banter. I always had laughter and jokes with my other personal trainers. I don’t know if that was normal but I think this is also weird? Had an hour long session yesterday with pretty much no chat at all. AITA for wanting to switch to someone more fun that I can have some banter with? This woman is expensive and I feel bored during the sessions.

YANBU. I had a personal trainer for a while & we had a really good laugh together - it was really important to me to find one I clicked with.

Yep I had trials with 2 personal trainers. I found I clicked more with one so went with them. I need to be able to have a chat, feel a connection with someone who is basically making me do something I don’t overly enjoy…otherwise I really wouldn’t go

You need to gel with your trainers. After all unneeded to have that trust for them to spot u etc. If you aren't building that kind of relationship then it doesn't make u an arsehole to swap. I love mine. You realky need to be able to laugh and talk to get the most out the sessions.

It's quite reasonable to swap to someone else if you aren't getting what you need. It's a commercial transaction!

I had a PT for a few years and to begin with it was what I needed but eventually my goals evolved and I realised I wasn't making progress because she didn't have the specific coaching knowledge I needed. So I swapped to someone else.

It's not always a comfortable conversation but you should absolutely do it.

You do need to gel. I could not work with a PT I felt uncomfortable to swear in front of when necessary!

My PT is my coach, my therapist, my entertainer, and on my team. We banter, swap goo books we've read, and discuss holidays. I couldn't imagine a session where you hardy talk - definitely change. But do it respectfully - give her sufficient notice, ad do the "It's not you it's me" cover up! Or as a PP says, you have different fitness goals now (she doesn't need to know what those are).
