Full length leggings that stay up when running please!

I'm 2 completely different sizes top and bottom, with a larger bottom half and small upper body. I'm looking for a new pair of full length leggings for running. Except I'm not a runner, just trying to return to some sort of exercise after a long time and my very old favourite leggings have finally given up on me. I struggle with all trousers really as they're never small enough around my waist after accomodating my bum. I'm not huge, just apparently oddly proportioned.

I want full length leggings, not this 7/8 stuff, dark solid colour that's not see through, and with some kind of ribbon or something to tie round my middle so they stay up and not just pre-washing! Sadly must also not cost a fortune.

Can anyone recommend some good leggings, please?

I have RonHill fleecy ones for Winter. The back zipped pocket is large enough for an iPhone and have a drawstring waist / no stde pocket. Too long for me so have to turn up. Can’t comment on spring/summer ones.
7/8 are full length on me but wear cropped M&S/SB at this time of year.

Lots of great options out there!

I wonder if my shape is weird as SB power leggings don’t stay up?! I can’t find leggings which do. I love a high waistband but drawstrings give me a muffin top. The best ones I had was an old pair of Nike drifit, high waist ones but they don’t seem to do them anymore 😩

I have the same issue OP and a unitard (mine are from adanola) with a t shirt over the top has been life changing.
Annoying when you need a wee but not an issue for short runs and worth it not to spend an entire run hoiking my leggings up.

Wow, thanks for this! Didn't expect so many recommendations and a bit of a laugh at the same time.

I like a drawstring because I really need to pull in the waistband and any without that I've tried really don't work for me, but yes, it does give me a muffin top as I certainly do not have a toned, flat tummy. Rather the security of a tight drawstring than bum on show and general uncomfiness as leggings gradually fall down with each plodding step. I had not come across the unitard idea and will have to look into that one!

Thanks all, maybe I will actually manage to start the couch to 5k soon!

Maybe you need to size down?

Gymbunny2025 · 09/05/2025 20:42

I can honestly say I’ve never had an issue with leggings falling down during exercise. I wonder why! It seems everyone else does. I do have an issue with cycling shorts riding up my legs. But I can live with that!

Try sweaty Betty yoga, they are high in compression. I love mine.

Loopytiles · 10/05/2025 08:14

Ronhill - often on sale at John Lewis and sports sites and Nike Pro - often on sale at sports direct.

Sweaty Betty ones (in the correct size) squash you in (presumably to look better) so are uncomfortable.

MiddleAgedDread · 10/05/2025 08:33

M&S good move and I prefer the sweaty Betty zero gravity to the power leggings. But I prefer the price of the M&S ones and SB colours can be a bit weird.

OrlandointheWilderness · 10/05/2025 08:37

Mine are Lucy locket loves. If they are falling down they are too big!!

LifeIsGreatForUnicorns · 10/05/2025 08:38

I have these leggings from M&S.
they have an internal drawstring which keeps them up.

They say7/8 but they are quite long and (in short) so go all the way down my leg (I have other 7/8 leggings and they are shorter)
I also have some under armour leggings with a drawstring which are fab.
Good luck in your search as most leggings don’t have the inside drawstring (& then fall down when I exercise!) 😞

I have these too. Pretty good. I find the phone makes them feel a bit like they want to fall down, but they don't. Drawstring helps. Wish they'd add a second side pocket though! But will probably buy again. They've lasted really well too.

Exactly what I'm after full length leggings but don't know what brand

Sweaty Betty Zero Gravity are fantastic. I buy them on Vinted for £15-£20 a pair
