Trainers & what to wear

Hi, have signed up for Race for Life and looking to join some local park runs.
Would love recommendations on trainers and also what else to wear - leggings, joggers etc.
Feel nervous but have been doing couch to 5k and want to start getting out and running now.
Thank you.

Go to a running shop and try them on. For casual 5ks, you shouldn't need anything too expensive and technical, but they do need to fit well. Decathlon is a cheap and cheerful option if that's near by. You do want running trainers rather than general purpose because they're designed for the repetitive way the foot strikes the ground when running.

My recommendations for specific trainers are specifically targeted at the niche of runners with tiny, ultra-wide, high arched, multi-terrain use, needing support, prone to achilles issues so want a higher drop, running long distances up to HM. Grin
In summary, what I'd recommend and works for me is probably unsuitable for 90% of runners.

Thank you, found some old threads abouts gait analysis and that led to me a really lovely independent running store near my work place that can help :)

Running shop as suggested for trainers.
Having said that I run in a pair of karrimors which felt comfortable straight out of the box and do up to 150km per month in them. (They are getting to the end of their running life).
clothing - it’s what you feel comfortable in to run. I’m currently wearing a lot of sale stuff from matalan and primark. It fits, is comfortable, practical and covers up what needs to be covered. But I also own and love stuff from sports direct and llama leisure (for the prints) and Amazon….so comfort first - you don’t want to be constantly adjusting clothing, and then maybe price.
