Does anyone do trampolining?

I'm an overweight, unhealthy 40 year old woman who needs to get back in to some sort of shape. I want to lose weight, but I'm more concerned about my overall health as even walking up stairs feels like hard work at the moment. I will also be looking to overhaul my diet in addition to the exercise, which will likely involve low carb as this has worked well for me in the past.

I saw a video about rebounding, and once I'd started looking in to that I was reminded of how much I loved doing trampolining at senior school. I'm wondering if anyone uses a full size trampoline at home, to do proper routines? I could do with suggestions for decent set ups, specifically those that will cope with around 120kg if anyone can help please?

I do it at Boogie Bounce, one of a few companies who run classes. It’s been fantastic for me if you were to think about the smaller ones. I’m not clear on how a full size trampoline will fit in your house. 😬

It'd just be a trampoline set up in the garden at home. I'm still considering a smaller one, but our inside space is really lacking and I'd probably struggle to store it - I wouldn't fancy using the smaller one outside for some reason, which I know is odd. It's great to know the Boogie Bounce has helped though so thank you 🙂

I did a trampoline fitness class. It was impossible not to pee myself and I have zero problems with my pelvic floor usually. I have had 3 kids. And I noticed that about 5 mins into the class, all 6-7 of the older people there, who looked like mums (compared to the younger women who came in groups and all the cool gear) ALL either went home or went to the toilet….

i just worry that trampolining for a mum is actually bad for pelvic floor. Might need to build up slowly to get the strength there.

I did it for a bit when my children were younger, brilliant fun but surprisingly very hard work

I have a rebounder that I use in the garden. Big garden with high walls so nobody can see me!

I hadn't even considered the pelvic floor thing tbh, and I've had three kids since I last tried trampolining 😳

Maybe starting with a smaller one and doing some rebound work first would be a good idea, just to see how things go. I can't help but crave doing the full routines though. I really did love it, and probably would have pursued it at a higher level if it wasn't for the awful leotards they made us wear to compete in 😖

I did trampolining at school and uni.
I’ve returned to it a few one off times at the local club and loved it each time. No pelvic floor issues.
I also go on our garden one occasionally.
I’m 43 now and thinking about giving it one more proper go before it’s too late.

I used to have mini rebounder which I enjoyed but sadly I'm a middle aged woman so it was 50/50 wether I'd pee myself or not!
Now I use a mini stepper and exercise bike....much safer!

We got a kingsize “stuntman” professional outdoor trampo - at ages 40.
Just had it cut up and removed (age 68!) - the cement in my metal knee wouldn't hold up apparently - feeling gutted about it though.

We first tried classes at a local authority gym with teachers - worth investigating.

Other pensioner friends went somewhere with overhead support harnesses - so they could safely do somersaults apparently…

No need to worry about pelvic floor/accidental weeing if it’s outdoors on your lawn (to quote my SIL).

Finally, we caught my then 80 year old DMIL secretly climbing a stool to get on it - she waved her arms frantically and bounced - but her poor feet didn’t actually leave the mat.

We had a big 16 footer in the garden, but I virtually needed a nappy

Rocknrollstar · 02/04/2025 07:05

Think about your knees as well as your bladder.

BiscuitsAndButtons · 02/04/2025 07:09

Have done it at a sports centre pretty regularly and there are plenty of women there who have children so the pelvic floor thing obviously isn't an issue for everyone. I'm also not sure it's particularly high impact on your knees (per pp) compared to many other sports. I find garden trampolines rubbish though.

I used to drive past a huge walled garden and regularly see only the head bobbing up and down of someone riding a horse round the perimeter

I did trampolining with my DD in my 40s, no pelvic floor issues at all, it was great fun! However, if you’re wanting to do more than bounce on the spot you should really have at least one person spotting you I case you fall off. I’d suggest classes rather than a big trampoline in the garden
