10 mile race (running) on Sunday - ankle was injured

I was all on track to race 10 mile on Sunday. Nothing impressive, but back on track after a number of unfortunate, unrelated injuries last year (rolled my ankle hard, then fell off my bike in my cleats landing on my ankle - each side. Was only cycling cos I couldn't run!).

Anyway, I was due to do my last long run the week before last, but went over on my ankle again. Complete bad luck, just a bad footing on the pavement.
This has pretty much healed - didn't bruise or swell much (unlike the other times). So I ran 2 miles yesterday to try it out. I can still feel it, but it's not painful and certainly didn't make it worse. So, I'm going to race.

My dilemma is whether to go for a short leg stretcher today. Normally I wouldn't. The week before a race would be a couple of gentle runs, maybe 4 or 5 miles on the Thursday.

WWYD?

Rest it. You tested it yesterday and think you might be OK to run, so don't run the risk of doing any further damage today.

You're not going to gain any fitness from running today, so the best thing you can do is stay off the ankle as much as possible til the race. Good luck!

Thanks @FeelinTwentySixPointTwo I'd come to that decision as well. A run today won't improve my performance on Sunday and could possibly make it worse. I'm just a bit antsy! You username indicates you know that feeling :-)

Ha ha - I certainly do!!

Rest. Another bit of rest will do more good than the leg stretch.

I once did something to my inner thigh on the Monday before a race. Couldn't walk on Tuesday. Managed to hobble a gentle parkrun on the Saturday as a tester. Did the HM in cold, wet and windy conditions on the Sunday. It was a long, slow, sore, 2:45 half-marathon.

When I saw the osteopath a couple of weeks later, he thought I'd torn the muscle. No wonder it hurt!
If I'd realised, I might not have been so bloody minded about it, but it happened to be this time 5 years ago, so turned out to be my only chance to race for another 7 months so can't really regret the bloody mindedness 😂

At least if it's not 100% on race day but is runnable, you'll have event atmosphere to pull you through and it doesn't sound like the kind of injury to be worsened long term.
(I have had the sense to DNS when I had an achilles injury as that wasn't ready and the training wasn't quite in the right place at that point).

The race went really well. It was nice not having the pressure I usually give myself. I could feel the ankle and I'll see tomorrow whether it's made it worse. I don't think so though.
I did it in 1hr 21 - 2nd FV50. Happy with that.
Maybe I should try a super long taper again.

That's a really decent time - well done!
